While this has softened since I last tasted it, it is still fairly rustic with lots of dark fruit, cocoa and tobacco undertones, but drinking nicely almost immediately after opening.

Time has smoothed out some of the rough edges. This is drinking well now.

Oh!

Dark rich fruit, some licorice, tobacco and earth. Modern fruit but old world acidity. Loved the smell. Liked this a lot and look forward to drinking the last little bit tonight.

Mostly dark fruit with cocoa and tobacco undertones with some chewy tannins on the finish. Quite nice and drinking well today with about 45 minutes in the decanter.

Enjoyable. Plummy purple fruit, some vanilla, milk chocolate notes that also transition to a soft, milk chocolate texture, but with good acidity in the background. The soft fruit makes for good up-front appeal, while the acidity makes it food-friendly. At Harlan Social in Stamford.

Mild bright nose with berry and a peppery/herbal quality, like a Cotes-du-Rhone. Surprisingly soft and plush for a wine of this level, but with good acidity. Medium finish.

Lpskeleton's note covers it really well. I don't have much experience with aging barbera but I would not think this to be an ager. The fruit and acidity are there, but not much tannin. This is delicious and easy drinking.

Decant for 1-2 hours. Young dark fruits, slight bitternes and salty feel. Tannins still a bit hard. Most definitely a food wine. Give it ½-1 year sideways to harmonize.

This is on the level of a village Beaujolais with a little darker color and a very similar aroma profile of granite, smoky fruit, and a touch of earth. In the mouth the wine is medium bodied, somewhat acidic, and a bit course, or dare I say unfinished. Perhaps that's the way we like our Dolcetto. There's some grip on the finish and not a whole lot of fruit here...yet. I think the tannin may soften nicely by early 2013 …
