This guy was a BEAST. Can you drink it now? sure. can it age for another 10 years? Absolutely. The tannin of this Barolo is amazing if you are someone who adores harsh Nebbiolo. This is a great food wine that will go well with cheese, pasta, red meat, etc. The palate was complex. Crushed black fruits, white pepper, black olive, and finish that goes almost a full minute.

Still a brooding tannic beast at 16. Dust, dirt, coffee grounds, menthol, tar/asphalt and black licorice atop over ripe red cherries and red plums on the nose. Medium + intensity of aromas. The palate is a little different, showing flavors of juniper berries, potpourri, cedar wood and black licorice atop over ripe red fruits (that part is consistent with the nose). High intensity of flavors. Medium + body with medium acid and high tannins that don't seem to be going …

Was a bit concerning on the nose initially, smelled a little bit wet wood, but turned out very nice on the palate. Very smooth and balanced, fine tannin, long finish. Opened bottle for 1.5 hours, and just breathe in glass through the night, gets better after 2 hours. Like it

Barolo Rocche Dinner at Duomo. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of soy sauce, tertiary earth, meat, old leather, dried red plums. Develped. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5%), resolved tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of mushroom, truffle, earth, savoury leathery meat, soy sauce,, dried red plums, dried cherries. Long savoury saucy finish. Very good quality. Nicely tertiary, with all the modern elements …

In my cellar since release. 14.5% ABV. Double decanted after about an hour in late morning and taken later to a friend’s house. Lightly bricked translucent medium garnet, that got redder and less bricked with more air. Earthy, roses, tobacco, and cherry on the nose. Palate still has dusty tannins that are somewhat grippy. Cherry fruit, tar, minerals dominate the mid-palate with tart floral burst on the finish. Mature and ready to drink but probably on a plateau that will …

A good experience - the wine was used for a blind tasting - which was challenging - the wine was opened and decanted 4 hours before drinking - we got a lot a mature fruit - is was plums and cherries. We got a lot of menthol also leather, tobacco and mushrooms. Acidity and tannins are still medium + tannins a bit dominating - but still the wine has a good balance - the wine gives a long aftertaste - …

Decanted for one hour before service - three would have been better. In the glass, dark auburn/maroon/red. On the nose, rosewater, tar, and a touch of leather. On the palate, fruit-forward from the attack through the midpalate, with cherries, blueberries, roses, soy, and graphite, but the tannins clamp down from that point onward, to an almost bruising intensity on the finish. Definitely some good material here, but another 5-10 years is in order to deal with those tannins.

Near the end of its drinking window. Short decant. Some bricking. Still lovely red and black fruits, some mushrooms, with a light touch of Oak. Very smooth but not quite silky. 30 second finish is what I enjoyed most.

This bottle was also past it's prime, but, in contrast to the bottle I opened earlier in the week, was still drinkable. I don't want to rate it because it was, in my opinion, at least a few years past good drinking, but it was fun to taste.

I have two bottles of this Barolo that I forgot I had in my cellar. I opened and poured a small amount of one bottle into a glass; orange-brown color, little to no nose. When I tasted it, there was zero fruit left. This once-fine wine had died a lonely, sad, and slow death. Shame on me. I mourned guiltily for a minute or two, then tried to move on with my life. I will try its brother as soon …

Some Barolo Stars : Tasted double blind. This bottle showed very complex and quite precise and could have been an amazing experience if it weren‘t for the slightly over the hill maggi, umami notes distrubing the picture as well as a tiny hint of alcohol heat. Maybe just a bad cork? Anyway, the substance underneath was quite good. And maybe the slight fault with have gone away with more time (the wine got better by the minute). TN: Medium expressive …

Single-blind. Very aged aromatically, ripe and slightly cooked brambleberry fruit. Elements of beef juice too unfortunately, but also brighter red berry elements underneath as well as rose water and mineral notes. For a short while this gave way to a more intense, fresher ripe – although still surprisingly dark – fruit, tobacco, leather and earth. There was a creaminess to the texture that made it quite pleasant to drink still, but this bottle was past its prime.

Decanted for a good hour and really a good thing. Not as majestic as the last time we had this a year ago ( Papies 95) but really a superbly elegant wine true to the class of the maestro that Voerzio is. We rated this 93-94 this time as it was eclipsed by the superb 85 Gruaud Larosse ( Papies 95) but this is a modern classic and superb Barolo. 93-94 and with lots of life ahead.

A superb Barolo and finally after 5 years and 2 bad bottles we struck gold. Needs denting like a good hour, and then it’s singing all the way. This for us was the epitome of neo modernist style, modern Barolo but true to its classic roots if not being overdone or with a heavy hand. Dark cherry, soft tar edge, light spice full on depth of flavour but always maintaining a balance and effortless elegance. 95 and buy on sight …

Color: medium ruby with slight rim Nose: sweet red and black cherries. Forestfloor, rose petals, baked African spices, tabacco... Taste: lots of fruit, red and black. Elegant, sweet and round tannins. Very warm and compelling. So nice and still young and fresh with medium acidity and a long long finish. Overall: this is great for now and if you can resist for at least 5 years. This is the best vintage for this wine after the 2000 torriglione!

music under the stars : uncertain provenance/storage. Browned with significant separation. Nose stewed fruits, some cinnamon baking spice. Palate better than the nose, hint of prunes but an appealing brightness, caramel red fruits, strong earth. Seems either over the hill, or not stored correctly. Buona Notte (RPM Italian, Chicago, IL) : Let’s get this out of the way, it’s Voerzio and there will be small barrel influences and noticeably so. Okay, past that there are richer (for Nebbiolo) tones of dark red cherries, raspberries, sour red fruits, cassis, incense, licorice, vanilla extract, herbs, and violets. The Full bodied feel has a brawnier side with tart, high acidity and chewy, high tannins that don’t dominate too much. This isn’t bashful, but I wouldn’t expect it …

Agree with BrigCampbell but also agree with RCG62. Fantastic wine, and showing no signs at all of bricking of its age. Strikingly dark color to this wine. This wine still needs plenty of time to come out of its shell. Very modern, as expected, but might be a little too modern and while a fantastic wine, doesn't quite live up to the hype. Will give remaining bottles a longer slumber.

A killer Barolo which was at its best after about 1 hour of decant time. Fabulous notes of fresh cut flowers, spice, along with a nice mix of red and dark fruits leading to a full palate with nice balanced tannin. I plan on enjoying my other bottles over the next year as I don't see the value in waiting longer than that.

Frank & Sue's for Dinner (PHX) : Surprisingly dark especially considering the fact that the wine is 16+ years old at this point. Definitely from the modern Barolo camp in profile. No signs of bricking or aging. Dark fruit flavors, dried berries, and medium amount of tar/earth and scorched meat. Still very youthful and probably 5-10 years away from primetime.

Perfumed notes of dried fruits, orange zest, crushed flowers, sweet red berries and some spices. It's medium+ bodied but dense with medium-high acidity and high tannin. I would give this some time but it's already surprisingly accessible (if you don't have a problem with high tannin). (92+)

Double decanted 3 hours before drinking. Dark colour in the glass, the nose was quite tight but intense (not over extracted at all though): dark sweet cherry, hints of vanilla, rose, leather and over time liquorice. The tannins were partially resolved but it was good to drink this with robust Italian food. The intensity was impressive and while the wine promises much for 5+ years time this was enjoyable now. ****(+)

Gave it a half hour in glass. Color looks a little funky to me for a Barolo, definitely darker. Cool nose, almost a birch beer/candy corn with an undercurrent of raspberry and plum. Still pretty grippy tannins. Long palate that lingers, more of a red tart fruit profile. I don't know - perfectly enjoyable wine but maybe too "modern", lacks some of what Barolo is supposed to be.
