Intense. Oily. Quince. Little bit of risk dual sugar. Similar to chenin blanc to me.

(Calcaire being declassified grapes from Hengst and Heimbourg) Terroir: Limestone Noted: Surprising finesse Pinot Gris usually shows smoky, light honey water, or earthy notes in Alsace - with limestone enhanced floral component.

At a really good place. Nice balance of fruit and petrol on the nose and palate. Enjoyed at Roy’s Hawaii Kai. Amazing with Asian influenced seafood.

A night of 2020 Zind-Humbrechts (Liner&Elsen, Portland OR) : The nose is fresh and balanced with a more stone fruit-driven nose of apples, peaches, pears, meyer lemons, saline, crushed rocks, and some yellow flowers. There is good depth while showing off an open-knit quality that is enticing. The Medium/full bodied feel is balanced and silky with crisp, high acidity. The acidity has a bit of punch to it, but it is otherwise fairly integrated.

Pale gold. Wonderful spicy robust Riesling aromas. Ripe, slight orange peel. Beautiful balance and gentle complexity. Palate flows from the nose. Orange peel, slaty, restrained balanced richness. The mastery I have come to expect of Olivier Humbrecht written all over it. A great backbone - a mark of the Alsatian master. Now - 10 years.

Nose: Lemon, pineapple, honey, elderflower. Taste: Medium-dry with lemon/orange peel, honeysuckle & pineapple. Balanced with good acidity and some buttery notes, good length. Good development in decanter over 6 hours.

January birthday craziness (Chicago, IL) : Zind-Humbrecht does have a bit of a reputation for making silly wines, and this is one of them. Botrytis, big, and hot. A small sip of this went straight to the head. The archetype of wine that had me turned off from Alsace for such a long time.

All apple all the time on the nose. Palate delivers apple, peach, and a touch of lemon with light acidity. Very nice wine after a long bike ride, but not quite as complex as I'd hoped.

Had at a dinner party, paired dish I made of with tagliatelle, pancetta, chestnuts, sage, parmigiano reggianno. - Color was beautiful deep gold - Nose, incredible fruits of apricot, musk melon, papaya, hints of pineapple and a floral component. - Palate, wonderful ripe tropical fruit flavors continue. There is a little residual sugar but the acid has it well contained. This worked well with dinner but I don't think it's sweet enough for a desert on it's own.

Tasted at the Vico Mercati restaurant in Vimercate. I did not realize it had a sweet taste. so I put iy aside for dessert than and order another wine. Golden yellow, peach, apricot at nose. Full bodied with structure well balanced with acidity. Extremely long finish. Late harvest style.

Robe dorée qui nous conduirait presque au Muscat, nez d'abricot, de pêche ? Fruits confiturés et une vive acidité très droite au palais, un vin original, marquant.

Still a big flavored white. Quite unusual in that regard. Seems to be getting long in the tooth wiht the zesty personality that it used to have on the wane.

Very funky mineral stink on the nose. And then a crazy almost sweet body. This is very difficult to drink. Like listening to music that is purposefully dissonant.

Popped and poured. Color: Deep golden, like a 10-15 year old Sauternes. Nose: Mild to medium oil and smoke. Honey/cinnamon-like spice. Smells a little like Sauternes. Nose opened up a little more on 2nd day. Palate: Even mix of rich, acid and mineral on the medium side. Hint of dried fruit. Did not lose much of the medium structure by 2nd day. More spice than fruit (not sure what fruit this reminds me of). Good but, nothing special. Overall: I'd …

Notes from day 2. Medium gold color. Nose smelled sweet with light honey, minerality, saline. On the palate there was papaya, a little honey, green tea, with minerality and smoke some zest on the tail end. The finish is above average in length and there is decent balance to the wine even though there is not much fruit present. Drink or hold. 50+5+11+14+8

Ceraceous, stoney and stone fruit on the nose. Apricot underneath it all, somewhere. The nose would not lead me to the palate. Which is fairly forward with green tea fruit. Almost heading into riesling diesel like territory. Its not a staid wine that is for sure. A wild ride at $34.

nose is mineral driven with a delicate hand of wax. color is yellow to become goldenrod. Medium minus acid floral notes on the palate as well. some sort of maize sweet to the finish. nose suggests saline/seaside. lively upfront on the palate(to spritz or not to spritz???), but then finishes with a lower acid profile. Quite a mind bender.

Thsi started with a bring, zesty burst of fruit flavors. Delicious but not a wimpy white.

Great pinot gris with some chardonnay blended in as I recall from the visit at the Domaine. I had one appr. 9 months ago and a real difference this time - will improve even further. Fruit and a bit smokey with a small string of oak. Strong and full bodied for being a white wine, with some mineral.
