My Wine of the Night, and it wasn’t even a fair fight. This is a Barolo with a French passport. It’s lean, it’s slightly austere, and it carries itself with the kind of quiet arrogance that says, "I don't have to prove anything to you." While the other two are shouting for attention, La Serra is sitting in the corner looking effortlessly chic. It’s chiseled, it’s elegant, and it’s the perfect bottle for the drinker who wants their Nebbiolo to …

**Brought by a friend who always gets suckered into stashing this wine...This was thick, disjointed, lacking freshness, and more of a cross between an old port and a Chianti that could have been smashed together and shaken in a bottle. Almost like a wine cocktail...I finished one glass to be polite. I have never tasted a well aged Voerzio, so we may be on a theme here. Modern, extracted Barolos just dont age well...Just my opinion. I cant advise on …

Great Barolo. Extremely elegant and smooth tannins. Dried rose petals and lots of red berries. Drinking nicely. Light in color, and already showing some brick. Love it. 88/100

Fu$€ yeah! Wow. This is one of the most interesting and incredible Barolo I have tasted. Purchased off list at a small Osteria in Novara Italy So full So ripe Dry rose and cherry nose Tannins that are dry and powerful yet yield To the food. As a young wine, you don’t expect this level of finesse, but it’s there A treasure

Popped and poured, then put the remaining roughly 1/3 of a bottle in the fridge and revisited the following day. This is a cherry red wine with rusty orange notes starting to show through at the rim. The nose is great and very expressive (and clearly better on day 1 than day 2), showing cherries, rosehips, wet soil, and some damp iron or steel aspects. In the mouth, the wine is crisp and focused, largely revolving around the red fruit …

This is barolo I did not take proper notes but I remember this wine fondly and this might have been the best bottle I drank in 2023.

This bottle was probably not representative of the vintage -- it had been sitting for a long time in a hot Roman apartment and was very evolved. One person at the table said that it tasted like diluted port -- no acidity, a flavor of ripe figs, some tannin that became more apparent over the course of the evening. It was nevertheless delicious, rich and elegant and easy to drink, with some structure from the remaining tannin.

Do you like Barolo? Yes? Then you will find this wine idiotically good -- chewy tannins in the foreground, great depth, leather and tar and flowers and some meatiness, an assortment of flavors of intensity and complexity. Even after two decades, this wine needed four hours in the decanter -- it tasted thin and very acidic at first -- but was perfect with our New Year's Eve dinner. Lots of sediment. The last wine of 2022 and perhaps the best.

Very Italian nose with the aromas of leather, tar, licorice and earthy. It is a big, huge, muscular wine with full mouth tannins. Not a fan. Curious why JS gives it 100 points😏😏😏

The '07 La Serra is a dark beast of a wine, but it appears ready to drink today, as I already found it to be a more savory than fruit-forward wine. That said, I expect the wine will continue to drink well for a while, and it's possible the wine will benefit more from the tannins integrating further than it will lose further fruit. On the nose, I found black cherry fruit, game, smoke, leather, and sweet spices. On the …

Less and less impressed by high extract at the cost of longevity and problems with retaining freshness. When you hang and squeeze too long and hard, the wines are big, voluptuous and delicious at the beginning, but they seem to tire out over time. This is what I am feeling here having drank a bottle twice over the last couple years. Definitely a decline from last time with a rather Merlot like thickness and far from a Barolo. If blind, I …

New Years Eve- with wagyu fillet and mushrooms. Slow oxed for 6 hours and then decanted. Still had a little way to unwind and continued to open in the glass. Maybe at a slightly muted stage of evolution? The tannins and oak were well integrated- there was elegant acidity and mid palate heft (especially as it further opened up), and a silky texture throughout. Finish not as long as hoped for. All in all very good but not mind-blowing.

This is a BIG Barolo! Muscular as it can get for a Nebbiolo, even after 13 years. The wine is filled with lots of fruit in the form of stewed red cherries aged in cedar. Long and persistent finish with tones of petrol and char. It improved in length and gained weight with time in the glass, but to me, it lacked the freshness to warrant more aging. Drink

Aromas of cherry, prune, licorice, tar, and rose petal. Palate is hedonistic, with intensely concentrated fruit, earth, licorice, and salty minerality. Very fresh despite the massive fruit. Still quite a bit of tannin to resolve, but extremely pleasurable now. Finish goes on and on.

Dinner organized by Mark T with Paolo/Matt/Jack - generous contributions from our cellars (Wolfgang's NYC on 41st) : Last wine of the evening, generous contribution from Paolo. Have had Voerzio's wines but first experience with this one. Decanted, open maybe 2 hours before drinking - could probably have used more time but great nonetheless. Is it time to drink this now? The developed aromas of tar, prune, matured strawberries, ship yard and withered rose petals surely indicates that, but somehow there is still structure and grip to bare this wine further into the future. Classic aromas, complex in that sense, and really smooth and delicious on the palate.

The nose was dark with moist soil tones up front, giving way to black cherry, licorice, crushed fall leaves and hints of animal musk. On the palate, I found soft, velvety come-hither textures with fleshy cherry and strawberry fruits offset by a slight herbal note as inner florals and hints of sous bois developed. It finished on resolved yet tactile tannin, dark spiced cherries, with a liquor like quality, and a hint of resonating heat.

Took to dinner at the Tam O’Shanter. No formal notes. Nice translucent red, although a darker shade of Barolo with no sediment. Nose has some herbs and tar. The mouth has some decent cherry flavors. There was a lot of heat throughout the experience, though. I hope this integrates or tones down a bit more.

We decided to sip this "modern" Barolo tonight. Issues of how long to age in small or larger barrels, winemaking technique, etc, make for interesting intellectual discussion...sort of. We could not let him believe a good Nebbiolo tasted like that. This wine is sipping very nicely now, but we …

Deep ruby turning brick at its rim. Fragrant nose with sour cherry and strawberry marmelade aromas mixed with tar, lovely scents of carnation and a deep breath in a pine forest. Two hours after opening a rich array of aromas like licorice, tobacco, leather and olives have emerged as well as meaty undertones. Captivating with perfect grip, fine powdery tannins and an overall elegance that is effortless and simply caressing.

We really do not care too much. This wine is sipping very nicely now, but we would argue "barely legal" because we are confident another decade or so is in its future. The wine looks crimson colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like red currant, fig, prune, stoniness and cedar. It tastes like red currant, mineral and prune. The body is full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes long. After a 45min. decant wine still needed more time to open up. Still could have aged longer.

Took to a group tasting last night and it's fair to say I was much more impressed with this wine than others. My tasting notes closely match my prior bottle, but the others tasters felt the wine was still highly tannic and disapprovingly "modern." I still like the damn stuff a lot, but the decanter still had a fair bit left in it at the end of the evening (to be fair, so did just about every other decanter/bottle)...

Beautiful wine. Starting to show some bricking and hints of brown. Dark fruit nose of prune/fig, caramel and maybe cedar. Silky mouthfeel, with great focus and tremendous length. Palate similar to the nose, with classic Barolo flavors with great complexity and balance. Seems on a pretty quick evolutionary path -- I'd have guessed it was older, so I'd say drink up!
