Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées

Nose: citrus, white flower, sesame, flint, Notes: 13.5% ABV. This has an interesting flint in the aroma. Stylistically on the leaner side but the fruit in the wine is giving some good backbone and balance. Showing very well and I believe a couple years of aging will bring this to an even higher level. I do find Caroline Morey's wines quite interesting even though the style here are usually not my favorite. Drink: 2027+ Rating: 91

Un Chassagne délicat voir aérien, tout en finesse avec une très fine touche d'anise. La bouche est un peu mince mais rien n'accroche. Un vin sur la légèreté, intéressant et différent des autres Caroline ouverts dans la soirée.

At Pierre’s in Bridge. Similar to its winemaker’s label PYCM, this wine was terrific once given time to open. Neither heavy or delicate, it it the spot with some oysters and sardines. I enjoy the Morey wines and wish they were a little more accessible in the US.

Sunday afternoon drinks at home with neighbourhood friends. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, very pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs. Nose pronounced intensity, with aromas of toasty oak, mildly reductive flinty stones minerality, Chassagne wet stones minerality, citrus lime and white peach. Developing. On the palate, dry, lovely high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of salty wet stones minerality, flint, nicely integrated toasty oak, limey citrus, white peach, citrus lemon pulp …

Très bon, avec très peu de réduction, sur les fruits du verger typé Chassagne. Je vais passer mon tour pour d’autres bouteilles en raison du prix et du formal des bouteilles qui les rend difficiles à ranger en cave.

Thought this wine was terrific! Very much in the style of PYCM...

2018 Tasting at Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey and Caroline Morey with Caroline (Chassagne-Montrachet) : I love Caroline’s 2014 version of this wine and the 2016 was of similar quality. Powerful expressive smoke and struck-flint. On the palate exciting purity and mineral intensity, tight, precise with an impressive lingering finish. Loving the style of wine being made at this address!
