Much calmer than my other bottle a few years ago, although still a fair amount of Nebbiolo tannin and acidity - and lots of fine brownish deposit at the bottom of the bottle. Decanted for that sediment and then drunk over the next hour, with the middle of the bottle having the best combination between freshness and integration (the tannins were initially a little rustic). Notes of acetone, slightly stewed dark fruit, tomato and forest floor, decent length, better with …

Popped and poured at cellar temp. Definitely starting to show its age. Some bricking on the rim. Nice tar, roses and asphalt on the nose with just a hint of pruny fruit. Interesting mix of fragrant Nebbiolo fruit, fine tannins that are pretty fully resolved, and good refreshing acidity. Unfortunately there is the beginning of a stewed fruit note on the finish that is not terrible, but is what is leading me to believe it is time to drink up.

Pretty, but not tremendously complex at this stage of it's life. If you have any of this in your cellar, I'd recommend drinking it now.

Dinner with Claudia Sottimano (Chicago, IL) : Others at the table liked this more than I did. It is certainly a nice bottle of nebbiolo, but it is also starting to show its age too. The tannins have resolved but the fruit has also started to brown a little bit (perhaps this is just modestly advanced?). Some earthy tones here as well.

Beautiful wine. In harmony. The hint of oak here has integrated nicely. Fairly rich and long. No rush.

Ruby brick color, nice age notes but a bit dry and austere on the finish

Decanted for sediment which is absolutely necessary as this wine threw a ton of thick sediment. Medium garnet color with hints of browning toward the rim. Nose of ripe black cherry and plum along with some baking spices and a bit of mushroom. Similar flavors on the palate with an overall baked character to the fruit mixed with some cedar cigar box. Medium acid and medium+ tannin but nicely integrated. Decent finish. Overall, a very nice wine from a warmer …

Interesting - this has now been open around six hours, and it's barely changed at all. That's not a bad thing though, as it was open and tasty immediately; if anything, it was nicest during the first hour. Quite sharp on the nose and the palate, but with a savoury edge too, so there's a combination of tart red fruit, liquorice, soy, mushroom and cedar. A great match for some fatty braised lamb shoulder with tomato sauce, but just a …

Medium garnet. Dried sweet red fruits, tar, and spices and plenty of well integrated tannins. This is an excellent, modern style, fruit forward Barbaresco. Certainly as n element of oak to counter the fruit but is well integrated. Should cellar well for another 10 years but was delicious after more time decanting

Garnet red brown colour. A bouquet of cresote, earth, dried red and black cherries and other preserved fruit, herbs and a little nutmeg and tobacco leaf. Also, a little more old oak dresser than ideal (20-25% new French barriques). As with the nose there is nothing pretty, elegant or floral about the mouth. It's savoury, earthy and tarry with dry underbrush and sottobosco. The tannins and acids are well integrated. As is typical of this Barbaresco vintage, this wine is …

Two Piemontese, too much oak? : Drunk over three evenings. A bouquet of dark cherries, black spices, liquorice, creosote, mushrooms and black truffles. In the mouth, a savoury, earth entry, with underbrush and savoury nuances. There’s also cedar and some attractive red and black berry fruit, with touches of tar. There is bright, juicy fruit and good volume, power and drive, marred only slightly by a bitter tannic finish. I recently tasted at Sottimano and know that, like the 2008 …

Decanted for around 30 mins. Medium ruby color. Nose was a bit tight at first but revealed black cherry, some licorice and cherry cough drop notes. A touch of heat coming through as well. Similar flavors on the palate with some slightly stewed fruit along with some cedar cigar box. Lots of tannin and acid on this wine but drank much better with some cheese and meat. Drying finish. I think this wine can age for a long time but …

Eclectic wine tasting (at my home) : dark translucent red-brown excellent delicate mature fruits nose with earthy & truffles notes and acetone hints medium bodied, firm tannins, excellent balance & harmony, fine structure, excellent complexity, very enjoyable finish & aftertaste, still young and can further age 8-15 years, at least.

Opened 2 hours before trying it. Poured into 2 375s. Light transparent red like a Chambolle. Lovely aromatics of sappy cherry fruit, menthol and flowers. Tastes pretty full and rich with an herbal element accompanying the cherry and savory flavors. Definitely more rich than the 2007 Cantina del Pino Barbaresco 150th Anniversary bottling I had last week. This wine has grip, but not like most Nebbiolos. Long finish. This will hold for some time, but reflects the warmer vintage.

Medium garnet. Open decanter for about 15 minutes before returning wine to uncorked bottle to decant in cellar for about 9 hours while I went to work. Still very, very tannic. Dried sweet red fruits and spices; much better on day 2. This is a excellent Barbaresco which will cellar well for years to come or it needs a long decanting if you drink it now.

Almost identical tasting note to the one of April 2013. I just love the dark cherry, flowers and menthol flavor profile of the Cotta... I would put it away for another 2-3 years though to let the tannin integrate some more.

for a young Barbaresco, this is drinking really well. Popped and poured and enjoyed over two and a half hours. Nice grip from the tannins. Lovely sappy fruit. No need to rush. Should only improve with more time. The Sottmano wines are terrific and reflect the care the family takes in the vineyard.

Had it for dinner at Ca del Lupo in Montelupo Albese (Piedmont). Beautiful but still young nose of cherries, mainly dark fruits, flowers (roses), leather and some eucalyptus/mint. On the palate great concentration and structure with almost Barolo-like tannins and acidity. Very dense and long with great elegance despite the power and intensity. Very very good Barbaresco.
