Lemelson Vineyards Chardonnay Reserve

Drank two bottles this week, both of which happily showed much better than the subdued April bottle. Vivid chardonnay that's closer to Meursault than California, excellent.

Has a bracing acidity that starts at the front that stays with it in mouthfeel though it does smooth out a bit.

Appearance - Light golden color, brilliantly clear, good body/legs - 3/3 Aroma/Bouquet - citrus, slight oak, mineral - 5/6 Taste - citrus, oak, slight acid - 5/6 Aftertaste - medium finish, citrus continues, clean finish - 3/3 Overall - good fruit with some minerality/oak complexity - 2/2 This judgment is based on a 20 point AWS scale, interpolated to a 100 point scale.

Subtle and complex. Green apple and lemon, spice, a little herb, baked celery, and a hint of vanilla. Creamy texture with good underlying acidity. Just a tad softer than last August's bottle.

Tasted at the winery. This wine is a blend of 3 vineyard sites with about 66% malolactic fermentation and aging in 30% new French oak. The color is a bright lemon yellow with a nose of stone fruit, some butter and citrus as well as honeysuckle.
