Servert blindt.

Given proper air. Just and incredible nose of slightly fermented strawberries and herbal undertones. Light and lifted in palate. Above excellent. 92/93

Unfortunately very disappointed by this showing. Closed nose. Not given much beyond hint of unripe strawberries. Palate was very flat. Short finish. Tried again after 24 hours with no improvement. What shall I do with the two remaining bottles?

From MY’s cellar - had high expectation following many positive reviews. This failed to deliver. Faint blood red, sour plum nose, crunchy tannins, imbalanced acidity.

Beautiful, beautiful wine. My first Burlotto. Not ready to drink yet but not closed down. Double decanted around 11am. Drank around 2pm with Thanksgiving apps. Red fruits, truffle, and very structured. Elegant. Long life ahead. I loved this.

Tuesday Night Blind Tasting (Atlanta, GA) : Tasted blind. My initial impression was that this could be Grenache/CdP due to the slightly medicinal/liqueur flavor profile. Beyond that initial impression, it had a sweet & sour note with a prickly drying finish that led me to Nebbiolo. The color is definitely Pinot/Nebbiolo high toned red wine. Maybe this will get better in the cellar with more age?

Barolo Communes Series #1: Verduno (Bristol) : A striking translucent pale red with inflections of orange. The nose is intensely fruity and sweet, with strawberry compote, a hint of super-maturity and twiggy herbs. Very perfumed. There's real energy and intensity on the palate too, though paradoxically quite a gentle grip. Lush and exuberant, it flirts with excess but stays just the right side of the line, managing to retain its balanced, elegance and refinement. Outstanding, even if only at the …

Probably the best Italian wine I’ve had. Aroma was incredible, you just wanted to keep your nose in the glass all night. Smoothly tannins, perfect balance. Absolutely gorgeous wine.

A few days ago, I was inspired to spend a long weekend with my family in Piedmont to taste the very first white truffles. We were welcomed by the Burlotto estate, which was kind enough to offer us a vertical tasting of its extraordinary Monvigliero. Once again, the 2021 vintage is magnificent and still available at a reasonable price: 2021: 99 points 2019 and 2016: 98 points 2013: 97 points 2020, 2018, 2017, and 2015: 96 points 2014: 94 points

Indecently perfumed on the nose with huge aromas of wild strawberries and dried herbs. Really in the top tier of noses I can recall. Concentration transfers to the finely textured palate. Very long. Just fantastic. Drink now or hold.

Borderline jammy red strawberries on the nose. Texturally very elegant and silky with sweet red fruit and a bit of pepper and tannin on the finish. It is initially a little hollow on the midpalate, but it fills out with air and there's a smoky minerality that emerges. While the acidity is there, the red fruit feels a little too ripe and structurally this feels a bit too plush. Still a very good wine, and maybe it will get more …

Dinner with the wine group (Zazie's, San Francisco) : Stood up one week, decanted off 3oz fine sediment. Light ruby, slight bricking; aromatic, red fruited, roses, elegance with some ripeness; palate is light bodied, medium-high tannins, medium-plus acidity, balanced alcohol in a warm year, ripe red fruits; finish is medium-plus length. Excellent balance, but not quite as complex as I was expecting from this producer. Still stellar Barolo, and the richness on the palate makes it quite nice to drink …

This is red fruited, with notes of red berries, strawberries, some mint, a touch of spice, some leather. It's medium+ bodied, with good medium+ tannin and some medium+ acidity. Long finish. Superbly balanced, layered and silky with buillding complexity. Excellent Monvigliero.

Dinner at St Jack (St Jack, Portland OR) : The nose is wound a bit tight due to pop and pour. But it doesn't take more than 30 minutes to truly open up and start to deliver as tones of olive paste, red cherries, strawberries, herbs, licorice, spice notes, rose petals, crushed rocks, and tobacco just emit from the glass. The warmth of 15 is certainly here, but it's more to accentuate everything rather than a hinderance. The Full bodied …

Gaja Vertical Celebration : PnP for an hour. Very consistent with other notes. This was a little bit of a roller coaster, offering flashes of freshness, silkiness, and bewildering complexity, with notes of ripe strawberry and hints of dusty rose. At times, it tightened up with firm tannins. However, this has all the stuffing to be an unforgettable wine. I can't wait to try this again in 5-10 years. 94-95

This was absolutely stupendous. No formal notes taken, but the memory is firm. I decanted it for 7 hours and it was glorious from first pour, with the most stunning natural strawberry aroma you’ve ever smelled in a glass. The whole wine was elegance and grace throughout its whole presentation, and this wine was absolutely drinking in full glory. The tannin and acid profile are some of the most beautiful, seamless representation of structure I've ever come across... nothing about …

Helles Granatrot. 96 vvPunkte

Fantastic - light and mid weight. Fresh with wild fruit - strawberry’s cherry and a more savoury element on nose. Asian spice / hoi sin. Very open and approachable - with time it seems to put on weight and loses some of those elements on the nose.

Wow. Not as much fresh ripe red fruit as the 2016, but still wonderful strawberry, mint, lemon and white pepper. I just love the balance and creamy texture. Super long finish with a firm grip. I am a huge fan.

Strawberries (fresh and frozen) all over - a bit of vanille as well. Juicy red fruit and a light character. Long finish. Accessible now but I would hold for another 5-10 years. Great wine.

Almost aromatic w. fresh strawberries, preserved red berries and warm spices like vanilla and cinnamon. Balanced tannins and relatively accessible now. The palate is a bit reserved compared with the bouquet. Fleshy red fruit and herbs. Strawberries all over the place. Long finish, but keep it for another decade to let it open on the palate. Remember to finish the glass fast, it goes full strawberry jam with too much air and heat.

Burlotto Barolo Tasting + X (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany) : En par with the Tre Tine, for me the nose was a bit more fascinating and complex. Fine, silky tannin, great extract, fresh, deep, great clear fruit. Wonderful balance and elegance. Very long and complex. Great Barolo. 94-95

A private dinner (Caffè Toscanini, Amsterdam, NL) : Needs a little time to open up, good body and weight but so elegant and fragrant, sweet strawberries and roses, papery tannins, grippy and fresh, a magical bottle.
