Opened and poured after MSA strings fest. Dark red with some clearing to the rim. Smooth, lush, thick and velvety. Definite black cherry, olive, dark chocolate notes. Glyceric and very smooth with no rough edges. Gains traction and bite with air, acidity lifting the palate revealing a little redder cherry element. Disappeared quickly, good - not great.

Got better with age, and in a great place now. Very nice GMS blend.

Decanted two hours. Pure, focused blackcurrant and blueberry with fine tannins. A very good single-vineyard Napa Cab with just a touch of the fabulous St. Helena charred earth.

Solid Napa cab but honestly not that special. I get a lot of menthol and anise on the nose as well as blue/black fruit. Medium finish and not all that balanced, the acidity seems a little bit on the high side. I am enjoying the wine but for the price I have had better ones. I think the wine has 3 years left and I don´t see how this will improve with further aging. Good wine....and thats it

I really liked the previous bottle. Not sure if this one is off, but clearly different from the last one. Black fruit, menthol, anise, cherry aromas, but just not in an inviting sense. The palate is more of the same. More thick and gloppy. Seems out of balance. Not sure which of the last 2 bottles is the correct note, but one is clearly wrong.

A bit of a trip down memory lane as this was one of the first wines from Rudius that I tried - this feels anemic to me, touches of soft cherry, a bit of orange zest, the Syrah peeks through despite (I think 7%) inclusion - a nice drink, but not a powerhouse in any way. Better GSMs for the money at this time.

i must have opened previous bottles too soon as this one is really singing well now. Beautiful nose as soon as it was opened. Red and black fruits, anise, strawberry, black raspberry, tar, granite and a hint of cedar. on the nose. Comples flavors with red and black fruits, anise, cedar, spice, mild earth, tar and raspberry. Well balanced with a long silky smooth finish. Really nice now, but should still hold at least another 5 years.

Agree with Amenenberg's excellent review except I found the finish lengthy and rather substantial. Perhaps it's the additional year of bottle ageing.

I love what jeff Ames does with Panek. definitely a fruit forward Napa cab, but also nice acid and not heavy handed on the oak.

Red fruit, violets and a touch of alcohol on the nose. The palate is red fruited -- strawberry and raspberry -- with some white pepper and garrigue. Medium bodied with just a hint of alcohol on the palate and a slightly short finish. A very nice food wine; paired nicely with Korean-style short ribs. 14.5%abv.

Popped and poured with dinner. A decent nose with restrained red fruits on the palate. An underwhelming finish -- well integrated but lacking. Decent QPR.

A jammy wine that seems to be going through the motions of the modern Napa Cabernet - ripe, check; thick, check; charming, not at all. Ruby red in color, full in body, nose of blueberry and milk chocolate. Tastes of cherry pie, licorice, cedar, and vanilla, with a sweet finish lacking in much acidity. 15.4% alcohol. I have enjoyed Jeff Ames's work at Tor Kenward, but this resembles a fruit bomb in a bad way: too fat and happy to …

This GSM blend is more like a GMS blend. Over 55 percent Grenache and 1/3 Mourvedre with the balance being Syrah. This wine had a nice grenache backbone. The wine had a black cherry nose. Cherry red on the palate, smooth entry. Herbs and a little bit of allspice. Acidic finish. Nice with chalupas tonight. This wine isn't exactly setting the world on fire (like the pinot did last night). But this wine is dense, jam packed, with a little …

Removed from a 56 degree cellar and let slow ox for 1 hour. Consumed from a Mondavi Waterford stem. Nice nose of blackberry, menthol, and assorted dark fruit. I have to agree with Csimm1161 here in earnest whose many reviews of Napa wines are always descriptive, enlightening, and spot on. The palate here was a major dissapointment given the supposed pedigree of this label and vineyard. The mid palate was hollow and generic with an abrupt finish. No distinctive notes …

Nose: dark sappy fruit, orange zest, smoke, tar and dark cocoa. Palate: full bodied with robust tannin. Well integrated alcohol and acidity. Big black pepper bite with dark cherries, strawberries and a hint of cranberries. Definite garrigue and just a bit of rare beef. Extended air brings out strong graphite. The palate clears out quickly, however, and the finish is underwhelming. Overall a solid effort with enough substance to be a versatile table wine that drew its own distinction.

Same as last month. I feel like this is digressing fast. My last bottle. Others at the table preferred it to the 2012 Keever; however, their palates were certainly more aligned with plump, round, fruity wines. I won't buy Rudius in the 2012 vintage again. Not sure if I'll venture into 2013 with this brand. I like Jeff Ames and all, but this was actually somewhat of a disappointment for me given the pedigree of the winemaker and the site. …

Same as my notes from six months ago except that this had a hard time shedding itself of a plum-tinged aftertaste until about 2+ hours of air managed to help bring out some deeper flavors. However, it deadened the intensity a bit. A hint shy mid-palate than what I recall back in May. I'm not sure if time will help broaden the flavors; very good wine... not super extraordinary for me. 92-93 points. I recommend drinking sooner than later.

PnP with notes of red and black currant, strawberry compote, red and black raspberry, asphalt, slate, granite dust, chalk, and a hint of cedar. A little tight and tart on entry, keeping it close to the vest mid-palate, with a pebbly note on the back end. This very much reminded me of my initial impressions of a 2012 Rivers-Marie Panek Cabernet on PnP, especially in terms of its red fruit and graphite/stone notes. 91-93 points on the initial PnP. Decanted …

This starts off quite dark and brooding, with some blueberry, blackberry, smoke, and cedar on the nose. Rich and full, showing lovely blue and black fruit and lots of structure. Tannins are a bit firm and grippy at this point, and clearly could use some time to integrate. Finishes with good acidity. Give it time (or air) to show its stuff.

Interesting after 2 hours. I need to be more patient when opening good bottles. Big fruit up front. It settled in over time
