Zaca Mesa Syrah Amphora

Decanted. Deep dark opaque ruby-black color, garnet edges. Purity to the aromas - violet florals and black plum & berry, tapenade, savory smoky charcoal and black pepper. Rich and concentrated palate, again showing very nice purity of fruit, with depth of chamomile and paprika spices, fresh dark florals and melted stone. Full in body with lift and finesse in the middle palate. Well-structured, sturdy acidity and broad grainy tannins with rounded edges, and good complexity and length on the finish. …

We rarely rave over a Syrah, but this one deserves it. I'm not going to analyze it, as that would be pointless. It's just freakin' amazing, is all that needs to be said. We had to drop this Wine Club (and several others); this wine is the one thing that made us think very hard about that decision. And now we have none left :-(
