"All Good Things..." (Chicago, IL) : From magnum. A very interesting wine to be sure. Tart red fruits -- and an odd, perhaps watermelon-like note. Reasonably resolved and drinking pleasantly now, but for me missing some mid-palate complexity and layering.

Decanted an hour before drinking, and drank over an additional hour. Nose was beautiful, but not overly expressive. On the palate it was bright and a little tight in the beginning. Very classic and rustic, but felt a little disjointed and never really fully came together to create an amazing experience

Wanting to try something out of my typical palate wheelhouse while cooking dinner on a Sunday night, I had remembered buying this one-off bottle from Somm Cellars a couple of months prior. Decanting it for around two hours to get rid of the astringent taste I was met with upon opening up the bottle, this balanced out extremely well and truly gave me an insight into a winemaking region I had yet to have much exposure of: Valtellina. After the …

Decanted it, but not for long. Light color, like others have noted, has quite a bit of alcohol. I would have expected this bottle to be mellower and more flavorful. I bought it recently and not sure how well it was stored.

4 hour decant. Transparent brick in the glass. Light body. Stunning nose of roses and orange blossoms. In the mouth oranges, orange candy (tending towards some Pedro Ximenez sherry like flavors), and a strong complement of mineral and herbs ... Granite, some iron, rosemary, mint, a hint of anise. More oranges (sweet and sour cherry too) and spice on the finish which had medium length. Very elegant. Very fresh. Very balanced. More candy flavors than 2015 Grumello and Sassella wines …

Tasted at a trade tasting in NYC. This was really beautiful with bright red cherry notes imbedded in a huge structure but starting to integrate and soften. Earthy, fresh, layered. Fantastic balance. Gorgeous!

Final bottle from a 6 pack. No formal TN, lightish in body, tobacco and soil-driven flavors alongside sour, dried cherries. Feminine, lean, with still grippy tannins and puckering acids on the earthy finish. Drink up IMHO. A nice, mature Nebbiolo.

Fun wine to go with the ossobuco prepared. Decanted for an hour prior. Dried roses on a bed of tart red cherries and brambly red fruit. Open knit fine grained tannins lead into an iron-rich mineral finish. Medium high acid balances out the wine nicely. Despite ringing in as ~12.5% ABV (forgot to jot down the exact figure listed on the label), every now and then the alcoholic heat pokes through. And while I didn't notice it at first, after …

Penultimate of 6 bottles, last consumed about 1.5 yrs ago. This is ready to go and should be consumed now IMHO. Old leather, tobacco leaf, a hint of sour cherry, anise, wet rocks. Nice and finely grained tannins with bitter acidity that is nicely puckering on the soil-driven finish. Drink now.

Nose - fragrant, pine, brambleberry, mint Mouth - elegant , light to mid bodied, tea, rosehip, Red cherry. drinks more like a Côte de beaune than Piemonte. Quite fresh would be my overall impression with sneaky lingering acidity.

Drank over a few days. Initially there was a faint note of oxidation on the palate and the boquet that concerned me that the wine might be past peak. That resolved, and the wine is a good entry level Valtellina red. Plummy, balsamy, good acid, very typical Valtellina notes and altogether enjoyable and thought inducing. But I don't see it getting any better from here.

3rd of 6 bottles. Last tasted 1 yr ago. Developing, tart cherry and raspberry fruit, with menthol, pepper, tobacco leaf, forest floor, and orange rind. Light ont he palate, with fairly brisk acidity and fine tannins that are easy to drink and delicious overall in the finish. Drink now through 2023+.

Nose - pine, floral, pretty nose Mouth - very elegant, fine light cherry flavors, cranberry, and lively acidity with still impressive structural tannins. Has some elements of Cote de Beaune but with a tannic kick.

Bottle #2 of 6, enjoyed today with rustic, homemade pizza made with the whole family. Bright and ripe red fruits, including strawberry, bright red cherry, some rhubarb, and cooking spices. So deliciously light on the palate for a red wine. A true palate cleanser, ready for charcuterie and able to burn thru some fat. Drinking well now through 2024 or so.

This wine was popped and poured, enjoyed with some pizza tonite. Didn’t really take a TN, but the wine was deliciously simple with the pizza, showing tart red fruits, med(-) in body and color, some earthy aromas also, but pretty straightforward. Drink now through 2023+.

This is even lighter-colored than the 2010 I just tried. Prettier nose, though, with earthy red fruits most prominent. Light- to medium-bodied on the palate, but with less focus than the 2010. I like this, but it is better on the nose, and comes across as slightly dilute on the palate. I opened both of these for dinner tonight, so we'll see if a little air causes any favorable development.

drank from magnum over 3 days. Lovely rose water and tar. Bing cherries and raspberries on the palate with mid length and racy acidity that dissipates as time goes by. Ethereal but with stern tannins, still. Matched with grilled spicy chorizo on day one, cured salami on day two and a rabbit stew on day three. Worked well with all dishes. Needs food

The 2012 ArPePe Rosso di Valtellina absolutely needs a one-hour decant to show its good features; during the first hour after opening it was disjointed (and worse!), but then it came together beautifully. This is a light-colored ruby wine with orange edges, with a great Nebbiolo bouquet of flowers, sweet spices, bitter cherry, herbs; a very light body, but with a nice acid backbone, structure and precision; very savory, long finish, with persistent sappiness. This is a serious wine with …

Had together with a 2012 Montalbra Ruche L'Accento. While this Valtellina Rosso showed nice lacy tannins that went better with food, overall I found the fruit to be lacking in ripeness and concentration, and ended up preferring the Ruche. Would like to try this wine from a warmer vintage.

So much cherry on the nose. A little herbal, funky thing too. Delicious right off the pnp. This is a great vintage for this wine....the acidity provides nice support but never dominates. Strawberries and cherries on the palate. Good sipped on its own, which surprised me. Paired well with a warm kale and tomato salad with a tart ginger-miso dressing.

Nice and accessible, with garrigue and candied strawberries on the nose, and plenty of red berries, cloves, licorice, and wild herbs on the palate. Good balanced finish too. Linear and not super complex, but well made and true to itself. Drink now through 2022.

Super good trad. nebbiolo. Had the 1997 Sassella recently and it was unbelievable with Rabbit paella at Soccarat. Trying an experiment to see if these entry levels will age as nicely. I think they will as everything seems structured and intact.

Drank at Fiola Mare in DC, interesting, good color, lots of flavor, 13% alcohol but a medium bodied somewhat dense wine for a nebbiolo, we drank it after a Burgundy so it was tough adjustment, enjoyed the wine with different fish, would drink again, wine was about $75 on wine list.
