Edwards & Chaffey Shiraz

Excellent, has aged nicely. 14% alc. French & US oak. colour: deep black berry Bouquet: rich black cherries, blackberry and blueberry fruit, black pepper, charry, vanilla Palate: as bouquet, black fruits, pepper, charry vanilla oak, big soft tannins, full bodied, nice berry character still, good acid, finishes slightly short. November 2018

This shiraz is blue/black, even at this age, with a little fading at the meniscus. The nose is all rich tar and licorice, no doubt about the warm climate origins of this. There's a little tannins remaining on the palate. But other than that the wine is almost without structure - a wash of ripe fruit lacking much acidic backbone. It's also surprisingly light hot and hollow on the palate. At a restaurant. Poor storage, poor wine...?
