PNP and tasted over 3 hours at dinner. Gold color, rich and spicy fruit with a nice long finish. Really enjoyable. For many this was actually the WOTN next to a lineup of GC red burgundies. Drink now. A-

PNP. Needed 20 minutes to fully open but very enjoyable, fully mature GV that is loaded with secondaries and a real treat for those of us looking for something different in a white last night. I would be drinking up but this was in very good shape. A-

Pineapple, honey, white flowers (honeysuckle?), peach and lime - some mineral on the palate. Ripe peach nose. Pale gold, high alcohol, med+ acidity, long finish. Well balanced, very enjoyable. Pleasant surprise for 20 year old.

PNP over an hour. Gold color, mature ripe fruit on the nose, nice concentration and finish on the palate. Very enjoyable and although full mature this is holding up pretty well. Would still be drinking now. A-

Low fill but higher than previous bottles. Cork soaked and moldy. Light gold color and fresh nose, with good lift and spicy finish to compliment the ripe fruit. Very good for the first 30 minutes, but then started to fade a bit after that but still good. A-

Similar to my last note, but also showing the most power and expression of the 3 aged gruners we had with dinner. Lots of pepper, exotic fuits, and a long finish, but maybe not as complete as the 01 Loibner. A-

Medium gold color. Ripe, full, rich, peppery wine that is not going to get any better but shows all you want from this style of GV. Nice finish, and seems like it is holding. A-

Remarkably ripe in its flavour profile with the fruit veering towards the tropical end of the spectrum and a seasoning of exotic florality and peppery spice. It's quite rich, conveys flavour with overt power but finishes a little alcoholic.

Medium golden. Pungent (good way) pepper, fresh peas, some citrus rind onm the nose. Rich, savory, very gourmand, the acid is blending in extremely well with all parts completing this excellent wine. Really excellent and I am sure it will hang for a while, but reeally lovely now. 93 pts.

Medium yellow. As always, difficult to describe but very Gruner. Assertive, full bodied, creamy center, robust acidity and citric tone. Distinctive, excellent, and ready.

Gruner Veltliner Tasting (7 wines) (New Buffalo, Michigan) : This was the 3rd GruVe from the 2002 that we opened at our tasting. Not planned. Just happened that way. One of Pichler's top wines. Only his "M" and "Unendlich" Gruve's have better reputations. Tied for my favorite wine in the lineup. Pale yellow color. Very darkly colored compared to other whites. Or so more "golden" than water white. Boldy pronouced veltliner nose as well in that FX style. Very heavy textured, complex flavors, but maybe not quite enough zip to balance that for me. I will try chilling it more.

TN: Huet, SQN, Spotteswood, ZH, Ussegglio, HL, Cos, Borgogno and lots more : Another white that was in a great place. Green/gold in color. The nose has limes, white pepper, and grapefruits. Maybe a note of asparagus as well. Dry. On the palate, limes and shite pepper. Complex with great acidity. Long finish. This is really interesting and drinking quite well.

Medium yellow. Fabulous combination of richness and rapier-like acidity. Apricot, cream, and the slightest herbal note. Complex, deep, and satisfying.

Popped and poured. Medium yellow-gold hue. Aromatically pronounced, with forward, lees-filled aromas of assorted tropical fruits (pineapple), apricot syrup, smoke, minerals...even a touch of exotic floral notes. Medium-plus body, very concentrated. Huge flavors on the palate, almost overwhelming...almost like a potent, spiked fruit cocktail blended with crushed rocks and honey. So I guess there is a reason FX is a top Wachau producer. More effusive and far spicier than Hirtzberger, but also more attacking. Maybe this is youth? Not nearly as romantically inclined as Knoll. This has penetration and power. Full force gruner. Wonderful stuff. Actually, now that I am getting into it a bit more I almost find it too much. Too powerful, too strong. We shall see!

Apparently a difficult vintage. Very rich nose: melony with raisiny resiny notes. Very nice on the palate. Rich and complex. Very big on the finish with enormous length. Very Good Indeed.

My first foray into an awesome Austrian tasting (Seattle, WA, USA) : Dark color. The nose shows marzipan, honeysuckle and clove, almost to the point of cloying. The palate is stunningly spicy and lush, quite explosive. The finish is hot, sharp and short. This needs some a few years to settle down and lengthen out.
