House Ethics Event (San Francisco) : Dense purple fruit, plummy, balanced heat, some complexity, dust and spice; full bodied, purple fruit, slightly synthetic, slight heat; finish is medium length. Good but surprisingly modern. 87

Excellent wine. Smooth on the palate, with subdued fruit - blackberry, some smokiness, decent finish.

This wine rounded out nicely. The tannins have all but disappeared, after decanting for about 20 minutes. The nose was of lavender - very perfumed. Smooth, plummy on the palate, with some chocolate. Not as forward as the younger Scions I've had, but very satisfying.

This wine seems to be hitting its 'prime time' and it is drinking incredibly well. The best word to describe it right now is harmonioius. I find it to be the perfect balance of old and new as it you can tell it has some age but it is still bright, with wonderful fruit, some spice/tobacco and subtle nuances that only come with time.

Drinking Quite well right now and showing a bit of age but still plenty of life. Not quite as fleshy as the last time I had it, showing more tartness and cherry flavors.

This didn't score that well when it was first released, but it is a gem now! Seven years from vintage may be the rockin' age for the Scions because this one, though outscored by the '99 when they were reviewed, showed much better. Luscious and glad I have a bottle to enjoy by myself! Second of a vertical of five.
