Uvaggio is a local term for a blend of varieties. The back-label suggests that this wine is a blend of nebbiolo, vespolina and croatina, but without giving proportions. I think you aren't supposed to mention specific varieties on the bottle in the EU unless there is at least 20% of them, but this was exported outside the EU. An importer's website mentions a blend, for no specific vintage, of 80% nebbiolo, 15% vespolina and 5% croatina. The merchant I bought …

Second half of a bottle initially tapped by Coravin. Still bright and tannic, no signs of fading. Consumed over two hours, this opened and improved with air. No need to rush on remaining bottle.

Beautiful and feminin wine, with a classic nebbiolo nose of rose pedals, red cherry and tage. Even lighter in style than Barbaresco, due to the High altitude, but still enough body and tannin to keep everything together. Perfect now and the next 5-10 years

Decided to open one of these (my first of four) after seeing Tim’s note, and I’m a bit confused by where it’s at. When first opened this was very disappointing, closed and in a way that feels tired or lacking more than “needs time.” But with an hour or so of air it opens into much more giving sweet blueberry and red licorice candy, touch of mint. Partner says dried rose but I’m getting less of that, some tannic potpourri …

Decided to open up a bottle, given some of the recent chatter in CT and having a good supply on hand. Poured into a decanter, then consumed over several hours. Fairly open bottle, lots of cherry and red currant, with cedar and baking spice. Not showing much tertiary development, but also not closed/locked down. Fresh red fruit on the palate, full bodied, medium plus acidity, low oak impression. Broad and delicious, though with the typical angularity of Nebbiolo. Tannins are …

PnP, then drunk over two evenings. Drunk to check its status after a somewhat worrying TN below. I am happy to report that this is still very young, even rustic, very far away from any maturity or, even worse, decline. To me a very nice Coste della Sesia, not too polished (rustic indeed), with quite some stuffing and very interesting aromas and flavors.

PnP that's completely ready. This has passed its apogee, and is on the slow, down hill slide, so best to drink up, I think. Med(-)>med-bodied, with cool acidity that ever so slightly overwhelms what's left of the red fruit core (if this bottle is representative). Lovely soil and alpine notes complete the picture. This was great if for no other reason than the food it was served with was equally feminine/lighter in nature. 14,0% abv. recommended https://www.ItalianWine.blog

93+ Absolutely gorgeous stuff. My third bottle, still got a couple left. Mainly Nebbiolo, with some Vespolina and Croatina N: Dried cherry, beautifully poised, cranberry skin, perfumed. P: Intense, iron, granite, dried cranberry, pot purri, Christ it's good. Ethereal. Got legs to go 4+ years. The winery is now owned by the same family as Isole e Olena of Chianti fame. Quality shines through.

Aerated to decanter for two hours, served non-blind. My third bottle from a six pack purchased on release, and the best since that date. Earlier bottles have held things close to the vest, but this, with the help of some extra air was found its way to the very good camp, even if the final sip was easily the best. I'll drink my 2017s while the remaining bottles of '16 slumber a bit more. An excellent sense of place, with …

Wine showed perfectly, consistent with last positive notes. Loves a little air, and hour open or decanted.

Really good wine, but also drinking a bit tight/shut down at the moment. High acidity, medium+ tannins, though the tannins are ripe and fine. Dusty cherry and fennel nose, a savory umami note is also present, full bodied, yet fresh, nice inner aromas of menthol and alpine herbs. Refined palate arc, strong finish. I am feeling like this is more like a Barolo or Barbaresco than a by-the-glass Pinot Noir/Grenache alternative, hold next bottle to late 2024 or 2025, structure …

In contrast to bottles drunk around release, this needed significant time to open up and showed more tannin. The fruit has lost a bit flamboyance, but with a corresponding uptick in complexity. In particular, there ‘s a prominent soy note as well as a more diffuse earthiness that weren’t very noticeable early on. That said, the fruit is still pretty and the medium-light texture appealing. Good wine that’s developing nicely.

Added a few bottles. Two bottles were off, soft corks each. Suggest a capsule thumb test for any you hold. One bottle had oxidized, moving the Nebbiolo cherry to prune and raisin. Not fatal, not a perfect bottle. Would have gotten worse. The other had all the hallmarks of early “corked” that robbed the fruit and highlighted the alcohol. After opening another bottle for comparison, this second one was dismissed. Third bottle was fresh and bright. vibrant.

Popped and poured. Light ruby color, very translucent. Very aromatic right out of the bottle with bright, high toned red fruits, some floral notes, bit of sweet baking spices and some cherry cough drop coming through. Very pretty. Similar flavors on the palate with ripe, juicy red fruits and almost a cocoa dusted cherry flavor on the finish. Medium+ acid and tannin. Moderate finish. Delicious wine now but room to grow. Over delivers at the price paid.

Light violet color Smokey strawberry licorice front mid tongue finish. Light and fresh enjoyed with charcuterie cheeses and appetizers. Drank before progressing to truffle pasta diner with Croatian wine. Would decant some and definitely have again with any pasta or cheese dish. Would definitely cut the richness of some good dinners.

Deep crimson color with bright transparency. Red cherry, cranberry, hint of rose petal, clove, menthol and sweet potato. Medium amount of half sandy, half unstructured tannin. Medium to high amount of acidity is well wrapped in viscosity, no harsh edge. Tastes like hybrid of Nebbiolo and good southern rhone (gigondas?). Ideal restaurant wine, not a fruit bomb or gorgeous/complex like barolo, but there is some hidden intensity worthy of keep chewing, consistent and genuine.90-91.

First of a case purchase. For Nebbiolo, it's tough to imagine a better QPR wine. Beautifully translucent. Rich cherry, berries (raspberries?), licorice/menthol, cloves/cinnamon/brown spices, tea, a slight bit of tar, orange pith on the finish. There's a coolness, a freshness to this wine that gives away its Alto Piemonte origin. Strong acid backbone, but very fine tannins. That, to me, is really the striking feature of this wine: The tannins are so fine that the wine itself is really quite …

This was my first bottle of the 2016 vintage. Popped and poured. Wonderfully aromatic. Cherry fruits in tension with drier roses and pine needles swirl up from the glass. Bright garnet color with a tinge of mahogany. A glass from the last third of the best, a touch of tarragon or licorice coming into the flavor profile. Fresh now, I wonder if the wine will raisin up as it ages as I’ve never kept the 12s, 14s or 15s. I’ve …

Fairly light garnet ruby, more garnet to the rim. Light feel despite the 14%. Really lovely approachable Nebbiolo (80%) with Vespolina (15%) and Croatina (5%). Some structure creeping in towards the finish. Dry rose, light cherry flavors with a hint of anise.

I've sampled a few 2016 Baroli recently--the aromatics and flavors in this wine are 100% on point for this vintage in Piedmont. But this is very much open and less structurally imposing than a typical Barolo or Barbaresco. Rose, sandalwood, cedar and raspberry. Fresh red fruit, typically high-ish Nebbiolo acidity. Layered palate. A bit of warmth on the finish, though the anise and menthol inner aromas are the star. Has excellent structure, a bit of tannin still to resolve, though …

Interesting and very pretty wine. Expressive and rather unique flavours, packed with raspberry, red cherry, floral notes and butterscotch. It handles the 14% alcohol very well. Tight tannin structure and good minerality for a red wine. Fresh and lively. Reminiscent of langhe nebiolo to me. I think it needs a few more years before it is showing at it's best. CH 28.5

Decanted for 1 hour prior to serving. This wine has a wonderful brightness to it. The lightness on the palate with fresh acidity carries with it pure red cherry notes and hints of a forest meadow. Graceful but serious, I'm looking forward to how this evolves over the next decade. Note to self: buy more.

My first experience with this bottling. Pop and pour on day one and drunk over two nights. This has a fantastic perfumed nose. It's incredibly floral with roses, cherry fruit, spice and hint of vanilla. On the palate, it is intense, yet lithe, with a sense of weightlessness. It's red fruited, with more medicine cabinet, rosewater, spice and vanilla that is subtle and, shockingly for me, additive to the whole. This has great depth beautiful juxtaposed with a sense of …

decanted (some wispy sediment for sure) 20 min; color transparent red clay; extremely expressive & pretty on the nose, enchanting bright bowl of fresh red fruits + some edgy mineral; supple texture on entry, w/lots of perfume-y inner mouth notes; tightens up & shows potential. bought six, then saw the endorsement from Dottore Heaton below, so wanted to try one; another Alto Piemonte gem for the $. chicken broth soup w/little hot sausage meatballs, orecchiette & cabbage, parmesan
