This has really improved with some bottle time, maybe 4 years since I last had it? Aromas of red raspberry, clove, and spiced oak. Medium to full body on the palate. Flavors of red berry with a spiced herb component. Dry gripping finish. Ready to drink and complimentary to food.

Dark purple red. Sweet dark fruit, coffee, earth and vanilla oak in the nose. Even a hint of eucalyptus but not in a bad way. Delicious rich dark fruit flavours and a long dry finish.

Still a very big wine. Aromatically challenged, only showing a cherry and leather. Not much of an initial attack, but flavors really kick in on the mid palate to the finish. Black raspberry and blueberry with a little creme brûlée. Dark finish, I can't really describe what dark finish means, but I know what it tastes like. Soft yet sweet tannins. This can still go until it's tenth birthday.

Wow! This is a huge wine with loads of flavor. Aromas of leather and tobacco with a bit of dark cocao. Blackberry, currant, plum, black cherry, peppery spices, and smoky oak and vanilla. A complex and balanced wine that is refined by strong gripping tannins and a nice acidity. Long finish that continues with waves of flavor. ($15)

89+. Seriously tannic, brooding cherry to go with lots of mouth drying tannins. Good balance, oak integrating. WIll hold last bottle for 2-4 years. Nice bottle, but in your face. Night 2: better 89-90. If this were Napa, you could sell this for $50 unfortunately.

This was drinking pretty well. Good varietal character and a nice mid-palate. Considerable oak and some grip on the finish. Not quite as smooath and well integrated as I would have liked, but enjoyable (with steak and salmon). If I had more, I would have waited a year and tried it again.

14 bucks for a 1.5 liter. Crazy bargain. Lots of fruit...black cherry, chocolate, faint prune, dusty. The tannins stand down though there's some grip. A workhorse.

I really enjoyed the 2002 Hogue Genesis Cabs and now the 03 as well. Maybe because they're such a great QPR. Big fruit, vanilla, spice. fantastic party wine for guests when you want to enjoy flavor but not focus on it.

This wine is ripe and bold. It has a solid nose of fruit. The taste is "thick, " very fruity with a good tannic balance. I found the follow through and finish on the wine, however, a little lacking. This is certainly a good wine for the value but given the ratings I was expecting a lot more. This wine is very good, but I don't think it's outstanding.

There is some BIG*SS fruit in this bottle! The nose hints at the big, dark, brooding fruit that awaits you. In the mouth, it's massive, weighty and mouthcoating. The tannins are big but very smooth. Popped and poured which probably isn't advisable. But even the next day, the tannins were still big. And did I mention that this wine is DRY! It's like the Sarah desert in your mouth after this baby. Put this in the back of the cellar …

Wow, this Cabernet drinks like a bottle much more expensive. From magnum, it performed very well. Big fruit and classy Cabernet characteristics of chocolate, coffee, mint, and more. Great party wine thanks to the price.

Do not drink this without decanting. Very tight and green tasting straight out of the bottle. Very little on the nose. Just after a few minutes, the nose opens up, but still tight on the palate. After an hour decant, this wine really shows well. Dark purple (almost opaque) with red highlights in the glass. Intense sweet dark cherry, vanilla, and black currant on the nose. The fruit is just oozing out on the nose now. Medium-full bodied with pleasant …
