Outstanding wine! Definitely at its peak now. Vivacious. Bold. Silky. With mellowed tannins and blackberry and dark fruit nose. Didn’t decant much.

The wine looks brick colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like mushroom, strawberry, prune, vanilla, sandalwood, cinnamon, clove, game and meaty. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

Fine Wines SG - Bordeaux 1985 Horizontal (Fine Wines SG) : Colour still holding well at garnet. Pretty bold, and a balanced whiff of paprika, smoked meats, cassis, and graphite. Smoky, meaty, with savoury herbs, and carbon. Like that rich brown sauce that does with meats. Great balance!

Stor doft av kola, klarbär, asfalt, blyerts, stall, svarta vinbär och en hög dos mineralitet. Fantastisk näsa! Djup och komplex smak av svarta vinbär, klarbär, mineral och kaffe. Fortfarande potent tanninstruktur. Lång envis eftersmak. Fantastisk!

Beautifully integrated wine. Although it has spent almost 30 years on its side - and the first 15 of those years in a basic cold cellar - it still drank very well. Goes to show how Bordeauxs are built to last.

We drank it at my retirement dinner on February 5 at a Seafood restaurant: it matched very well with our menu. The wine could have aged more if necessary but was still excellent: not heavy but medium light with good density.

Obviously not the weight and power of the grand vin but the quality of the cabernet fruit came through, this wine is very much alive and probably drinking at its peak with a few years left it in yet. Lovely Pauillac nose and profile on the palate, a lovely bottle of Claret, and delightful drinking if you picked this up in the 80s for a song and managed to cellar it!
