It needed 3-4 hours to open. It was a bit tight and flat before that, but then came into its own. It is a beautiful and elegant old world wine with a true Cannubi spirit. Its dark and restrained with a long finish. I suggest it with non-tomato sauce Italian food and some time.

Tasted at Paolo Scavino Andrea, the marketing Director hosted my family for a private tasting of the 2020 vintage. This was the last pour and was served blind. We knew it was a scavino wine, i guessed pre 2010 and post 2000. As it had been open 24 hours, it was full, well rounded without any harsh edges. A pure delight and shining example of the skill and work the winery puts into their wines. It also serves as a …

My first bottle of this wine, from 3 purchased on release. Opened this evening alongside a 2006 Sandrone Le Vigne Barolo. The Cannubi was more modern at first, showing more wood and anise notes. The red fruit was quite powerful, but a bit confectioned for my taste. Made all the more evident when compared to the Le Vigne. Long finish, a powerhouse Barolo, all fixed up and really a knockout effort. I liked it more and more as the bottle …

Very dark, opaque purple, youthful. Very nice nose. Balsamic, floral, a bit of leather, herbs, and black pepper. Not a lot of fruit, though. Tannins are soft enough if you have it with food. Full-bodied, very sweet and ripe. Plum, blackberries, fig. A little wood. Classic tar and roses comes and goes. A bit of roast meat, but mostly all about the fruit. Good length; finishes dry. Very attractive now but will have no trouble aging and developing more complexity …

Decanted about 3 hours. Nose stayed weak but palate came around after some time in the decanter.

Dark purple color almost black in the glass. Blue and blackberry fruit, plum, some tar. Surprisingly approachable but held up well over three days. A bit modern and extracted in style, 14.5% abv. Drink now to 2025.

Modern, meaty, barolo. A touch of barnyard. Pretty dark and full-bodied for a a barolo. Already excellent, even if just popped and poured.

Dark purple color turning ruby violet at the rim with a transparent edge. The nose gives off ethereal aromas of dried herbs, scorched earth, violets and black tea. The palate has a fully body and silky texture. Flavors of blackberry, tobacco, oregano, and graphite. This is quite elegant and rich. Finishes long with attractive gripping tannins. Drink now until 2028. 93+

Decanted for three hours. Absolutely singing. Roses, tar, red fruit. Strong tannins, pleasant acidity. Still on the young side, but very good nevertheless!

Very, very complex and arctypical Nebbiolo nose. Powerful rose-cherry-tar. Subtle hints of ink (from oak?). Very youthful, but also very deep. Will love this when age adds secondary aromas of tobbacco and gravel. Fullish, majestic and tannic palate. But also lovely structure and complexity. Deep and intense. Very concentrated and long. And at the same time so inviting. Perfect combo of chocolate, roses, tar and and ink. Fantastic, fabolous wine!

Is it too young. Maybe yes, but it is never the less such a beautiful to drink now. Balanced, elegant, long. Lots of tannins, but pleasant and rounded. Wonder how this will drink in 5, 10 and 15 years. I hope I have the patience to wait!

Barolo Cannubi with James Suckling (Domani, Hong Kong) : Pepper and spice nose with some red fruit. Full palate with plenty of tannins, not sweet but not bitter either. Good body and length. Actually quite drinkable despite the tannins. Elegant. This feels like one you'd want to cellar for a few years.

My favorite of the set of 2008 Barolos at the Cantina. Lovely nose. Sweet and spicy fruit on the palate with a cinnamon element. Very good.

Different wine than when tasted at vinitaly. Radiant, rich with lots of cherry fruit and spices. Seems like a very successful version and a top drawer cannubi. Possibly the best out of the 2008 crus from scavino.

At winery with Elisa Scavino - 2011 Barbera, 2010 Langhe Nebbiolo, 08 Bricco Ambrogio, 08 Monvigilero, 08 Cannubi, 08 Bric del Fiasc. Very rich and bold and the darkest of the flight. Figs, dried plum, earthy wet clay, and blackberries on the nose with secondary aromas and flavors of violet flowers, seeped, extracted English black tea. Sweet baking spices and baked cherry, cigar spice and raisin stem. Delicious wine with laser sharp focus and polish. Great long finish and a …
