This 2020 is still pretty heavy on the tannins, overshadowing the Grenache fruitiness. Look forward to seeing how it does the 2nd day after being open for 24 hrs.

Dark crimson, weighty and ripe Grenache. Red and black licorice, wild cherry. Probably showed better a few years ago. Too much tannin now for the remaining fruit, but who knows as it still has some life and aging potential ahead of it.

Juicy fruity... Bright with fruits that are starting to stew. Tannins are present and still have a bite but are overall well integrated. Enough fruit to continue to hide the alcohol. Drinking at peak or past, no need to hold on to this one.

In its prime !! Really tasting great right now !! The screw-top sealed well over a decade in the bottle. Consumed over two days. This wine started will fresh fruit; as it opened up, this wine showed better balance. On day two, this wine had softened to reveal increased depth, texture, and integrated complexity. Dark red color with no oxidation, and clarity is good to medium. Aromas of sweet cherry, and vanilla. Flavors of cherry, cherry, cherry, raspberry, glycerin, and …

Darker fruit than the 2013. Nose (and palate) is more juice and less candy. My favorite of the 2013-2015 vintages right now. Very drinkable at the present time.

Bright raspberry, red cherry, and plum fruit up front. Has some smoky notes on the mid-palate with cracked pepper and mocha. Medium acidity and finish, nice wine.

Color: light/medium ruby core -> light ruby rim. Gorgeous nose of crushed raspberries, strawberries, sandalwood, spice, a touch of smoke and vanilla. Beautifully composed palate of cherries, raspberries, woodsmoke and crushed rock. Great intensity, acidity and length -- and not jammy/gloppy or over the top at all -- this is the poster child for how Cali Grenache should be made. Great poise and palate presence; showing the greatness of the vintage and the deft touch of a killer vigneron. Lovely …

Aromas and tart flavors of cherry, raspberry, and perhaps a bit of cranberry. (I didn't note the tartness during prior consumption). This wine is ready to drink up, though not over the hill at all.

Wine is decidedly in a mature phase. Traces of oxidation in the very edge of the wine. Nose is laced with dark fruit and bramble, but also hints of must and antique furniture oil. Fruit is equally mature in taste, round but not a "fruit bomb" typical of older Paso. Finishes with traces of minerality that were not in the nose, along with blackberries and fruit leather. It's just OK for the age, I much prefer this a couple years …

The wine looks purple colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis) and blackberry. It tastes like black currant (cassis) and blackberry. The body is medium/full. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

This was a great bottle, from begining to end. Not decanted but consumed over ~4 hours. First sips taken while preparing dinner and the last...well, ~4 hours later. Bought this based on reputation, but never having tried the wine before. What a great decision. Probably better as it opened up, but fantastic throughout. Kudos to Villa Creek on an excellent product, from begining to end.

From a bottle that had been opened an hour but not decanted. The wine is a nice deep ruby color. Cherries, raspberries, cola, licorice, pine resin, baking spices, fresh wild flowers, minerals, white pepper, and a touch of earthiness are on the deep and alluring nose. This is medium to full body with fairly solid, ripe tannins and very nice acidity. Nice spicy fruit grabs your palate with savory notes and the pine in the background adding depth. Fairly long …

Like so many other examples of grenache from Paso recently, this is very ripe and rich. Tart pomegranite, raspberry, and licorice flavors are quite forward but are buffered by smoked meats and spices. Good weight with a soft and chewy mouthfeel. Lots of peppery spice on the sweet and sappy finish. This comes across a bit warm and bulky for a grenache - I prefer them to be a little brighter and juicier

Tasted on the second day after opening. Pure, rich, lush and delicious. There are two grapes that Cris manages as well as anyone - Grenache and Tempranillo. [He's deft with Syrah and Mourved as well].

Wow, this bottle did not show well. Decanted for 30 minutes and served at 60 degrees. This showed some sweet raspberry and red licorice with a bit of balsalmic and spice but was dominated by chunky, drying tannins and oak flavors. I don't really expect/appreciate new wood in my grenache, and don't remember this wine ever showing like this (probably the 3 or 4 time I've had it). Very rich with a med+/full body with good acidity - definitely not …

Day 1: Pop 'n pour. Too anxious to give this a try to waste time decanting. First impression: Bright nose and fiery on the first sip, then wrapped around my mouth like soft black velvet. Very impressed - popped & poured and it was soooo good. Full bodied and very fruit forward. The nose reminds me of summer nights, lying under the stars. In the mouth there's a slight edge to it - I love that it's not flabby and has some nice structure. Excellent fruit right now! Stems up!

Where do I start: 1) This wine is big and intense .... very intense. We opened it at a restaurant, and through the meal it began to open up a bit. This wine really needs a good decant ... it's very tight right out of the bottle. 2) I was expecting more fruit. I've had the '06, and recall more upfront fruit. I've tried this vintage at the winery (a few months back), and I recall a lot more fruit …

92+ actually, same as when I first tried it at the winery in Nov 2009. Garnet ruby. Nose is nice spicy raspberry compote, hints of nutmeg. Almost like a mulled wine. Mouth is rich with glycerin, black/red raspberry juice, underripe blackberry juice, tobacco. Finish is bright red raspberry, mouthwatering, refreshing even with a little grip & heat (15.9%). Great stuff.

Powerful raspberry with a liqueurish quality on a lush frame. Vanilla and clove nicely accent the ripe fruit, which shows a bit of heat on the finish. Would recommend a decant as the texture became a lot silkier after a half hour.

Running late so did not decant. Dark ruby color. Cherries, raspberries, licorice, minerals and a hint of pine on the nose. Medium to full body on the palate with ripe, integrated tannins and very good acidity. On the palate the wine is loaded with sweet red fruit, spicy oak, some earthiness, and a bit of pine. Nice finish with just a touch of spicy oak adding complexity. Really drinking nicely but no hurry on this one.
