Drank at the restaurant in Chiswick. Serious wine that is smooth with earthy and leather flavours and great depth. Decanted for c.30 minutes

From Magnum, this was still very youthful, with a deep, vivid colour. The nose had a suggestion of chocolate, leather, cherry and spice. It had a creamy mid palate and all sorts of earthy nuance. It was layered, long and in a beautiful place.

Last bottle in a case we’ve consumed over the past eight years. In it’s prime now, probably entering the twilight backside of its life. Did not need to decant. Rich, ripe cherries with blackcurrant, olives, and pipe tobacco. Paired nicely with a simple pasta marinara dish. Drink now. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 93.

Drank with dinner, no formal notes. Definitely in its prime. The tannins have smoothed out beautifully but remain robust in stature and partner nicely with bright acid. The mouthfeel is elegant. Lovely notes of red and blue fruit, spice, licorice and leather/tobacco. There's a lot of depth.

Cinnamon, licorice, black pepper, and a little cherry. In tact from the acid. While expected for a wine of its age, fruit was missing to round it out, both primary and tertiary. A bit austere, which disappointed since well-made CCRs (and CCs and Sangiovese in general) can be so much fun. Probably great 3-6 years ago--drink up.

£90/btl at Villa di Geggiano, Chiswick. Opened and poured about half an hour before drinking. Intensely concentrated, tertiary flavours. Dust and spice box and leather, memories of dried cranberries without any overt fruit. Really appealing aged Chianti. Great

Consistent with previous notes. Paired with spaghetti. Earthy, rustic, grainy, filthy, tannic - this wine flows straight from the ground. Sharp cherries on the nose and into the palate. Ripe, sharp, high-toned red fruit is set against dark chocolate, dried leather, and pipe tobacco. Definitely old school. Drink 2018-2030. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 92.

Opened and decanted about 20-min before dinner of mixed marinara sausage pasta. Entering a nice, round, juicy phase with a compact core of cherry fruit, leather, herbs, and mushrooms. However, the powerful sweet tobacco on the nose is off the charts and the overall highlight of the wine. The finish is still quite dusty but settling down. Great acidity so aging gracefully. Definitely a food wine; tasted quite thin without food. Will go another decade at least.

Needs about an hour in the decanter to fully open up and fill out, but when it does, it brings great core cherry fruit, tobacco, musty earth, leather, mushrooms, and lingering notes of candied strawberries and raspberries on the finish. Lovely wine. Paired with Lasagna. Drink now through 2025.

Deep, earthy, leathery, musty nose, wonderful inticing aroma that just sucks you into the wine. Cherry, touch of raspberry, saddle, and minerals on the mid-palate, with a racy yet balanced finish. Tannins there but the acidity drives the wine and will enable it to age well for many years. Just a sturdy, balanced, rustic old-world Sangiovese that screams food. Paired with chicken spaghetti marinara and salad. Decanted for 2.5 hours and it needed it.

Lots of briar and dried herb character over roasted black cherries, with sweet tobacco notes. Plenty of dark cherry fruit on the palate with some creaminess and more brambles, plus a very nice bit of sweetness. Texturally, there's some silkiness at first, then great acidity, and dusty tannins.The nose opens up nicely adding more aromatics and some sweet spice. Really enjoyed this bottle! Nose dominated by red berries and oak, in the good way. Again oak on the pallate along with sour cherries. Perfect acid, precent tannins and a slight bitter note in the end. All in super balance. Im sorry that i did not buy more!
