Dried/roasted red plums and raspberries, leather, cigar box, licorice, tobacco. Really harmonious at this point, lots of character and really distinct. Very Mediterranean feel.

Deep ruby. Powerful scent of truffle, blackberry and blueberry. Strong tanins with some spruce flavour added. Long finish that ends with some spice. A lovely wine!

Opaque ruby colour. Forward nose of grilled peppers, savoury spices, creme de cassis, and char. Med-full bodied, dry and gripping palate; richly flavoured, chewy finish. 4/5

Ruby red with purple core. Aromas flow from the glass. Black cherry, black pepper, dark berries and a bit candied with maybe an element of stewed slightly jammy plums. Some coffee bean, vanilla. Flavours follow aromas but add in some cassis and a slight tartness/tanginess to the fruit element. Nicely balanced structure, maybe a bit stronger on the acidity at this point. Chalky slightly chewy tannins. Longish finish. Fruit is still primary. Sweetness to the fruit mouthfeel. Medium weight. Definitely …

Drinking beautifully now, dark sour cherry. Lost a bit of the fruit the second night.

Deep ruby in the glass. Very aromatic with overwhelming sweet notes. Candied black plum and black cherry. Juiceberry candies. Some black pepper. Structured but too young. Angular acidity. Grippy tannins. Flavours show more depth than the nose. Espresso, sweet black fruit, cassis. Medium length sweet fruit finish. Drink 2023-2030

The best and most complex Bordeaux blend Niagara wine I have ever tasted. Exceptional!

Clear deep ruby/violet; clean medium plus nose of stewed blackberries, savoury herbs, jammy plums and vanilla; dry; high acidity; medium plus tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; palate is tarter; medium plus finish; drink now or in a few years; tasted blind - a little disappointing

A bit funky and disjointed right out of the gate, but settled down nicely after hour 2 and was very enjoyable with lamb stew and on its own. In a great place right now, but should drink well for a few years still. One of the very best Ontario reds.

13.8% alc. 2012 was a very good vintage in Niagara, ripening the grapes with more ease then normal. Beautiful herb dusted Bordeaux fruit aromas with some cocoa, cedar. Medium weight to full bodied but a creaminess to the overall wine. Medium tannins, medium acidity. Good and balanced overall structure. Smooth with a slight bitter twist on a longish finish. The fruit shows blackberry and cassis with some plump plums. On the mid palate to finish I also get some prunes, …

Much better after opening on night one and then leaving corked in the bottle over night. Second night the wine opened up and became approachable.

Very well structured wine. Opened up nicely on day 2 suggesting a few years in the cellar might benefit this one. Feels like you get the best of the all 3 main grapes: cab sauv, cab franc and merlot. Solid!

Very dark port wine stain red. Black currant, black raspberry, tanned hide, black currant leaf, cocoa nibs and lots of fresh sweet ripe dark fruit aromas on the nose. Same dark purple fruits are mirrored on the palate. A very slight leafy note as well that adds freshness. Good body with nice balance. Quite dry with gritty tannins on the moderately long tart finish. 91 points now at this young stage but seems like it has plenty of up side …

Subtle, concentrated nose with tar and acetate notes. Compact and dark flavours; rich, firm, smoky finish. 3/5 Not evolving as I would have hoped or expected. It's got the stuffing to keep ageing, so maybe this is just a hiccup in the ongoing evolution.

A reserved nose of dark fruit and smoked salmon jerky. The palate seemed nondescript, but still enjoyable. Dark fruit was in abundance as was a sense of loam and dark Earth, but it is all overshadowed by too eager a use of oak. It offers a bit of vegetal flavors and finishes with a big pepper kick.

Ontario Wine Tasting : Smells of bloody steak on top of plum cake, dark currants and magic marker. Dark and plummy on the palate, a bit more fleshed out and complete than the Cab Franc from this producer. I get structured tannins, moderate acidity, dark and saucy black fruit. Notes of loam, pepper, charred wood and cocoa add significant complexity. This should improve well for at least a few years. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, …

Served decanted, this is highly aromatic, offering nicely perfumed bramble, cran-cherry, floral, and sweet baking spice aromas. It's full-bodied with dusty, refined tannins and lovely aroma replays. It has juicy acids, very good tannic structure for ageing, and excellent length on the finish. An elegant wine from a highly prized vintage. Bordeaux blend. Will be better in a few years.

Niagara is known for ice wines and Stratus has some of the better stickies in the area but dry reds are another story. I was shocked... this wasn't bad... by far the best Niagara dry red I have ever tasted (though admittedly, it's not saying much since I've had some horrible ones). Light blueberry fruit but more fruit than is typical of cool Niagara reds. Light-to-medium complexity, strong tannins peak at mid-palate, light-to-medium body. 2012 was the best year ever …
