Chateau Couronneau, Bordeaux Superieur

Merlot dominated aromas with blueberries, plums and some liquorice in the finish. Soft and Merlot dominated also in the mouth, with some structure. Fruity and clean, with agreeably low extraction.

A solid but unexciting red

Ruby purple. Slightly green, vegetal aromas (which are not unpleasant) accompany wet stone and cherry. Pliant but supported by dusty tannins, with solid fruit and a medium finish. Nice value. Should last a while.

Most lower-level Bordeaux châteaux overachieve in this phenomenal vintage...Château Couronneau is no exception. Opaque crimson/ruby in color, it has a ripe nose more reminiscent of California than of anywhere in the vicinity of the Gironde. Black currants, smoked meats, clove and sage dominate the nose. The palate is full-bodied, with tart acidity, substantial chewy tannins and reasonably well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%). nose is okay, loaded with ripe berries, but on the palate it is just plain boring, chalky tanning and kind of high acid on the back end. Does not see any potential for this bottle. plenty of better choices for $20, will revisit the other bottle in a few years

great QPR at $20 nose of melted butter and chalky plum on the palate very chalky and dry, with lots of plum and a hint of cocoa powder medium-long finish. great aging potential.
