Sadly my last bottle. Gave it a few hours of air and a few hours in the decanter. A beautiful deep rich crimson that’s just barely bricking out at the edges. Inviting nose of strong roses, Chinese tea, tar and finishes with a hint of baking spices. In total balance with enough tannins to keep it alive. Full of sweet roses, tar and a nice sweet cherries. IMHO this wine is in a great drinking spot but would last another …

Slow oxed and decanted. A lovely expression of Nebbiolo that is perfectly resolved. Typical nose of roses, cherries, a bit of charcoal and tar. The tannins and acids are minimal which give you a beautiful soft expression of a fully mature Barolo. The fruit is shining through. Not complex but what a great weeknight drink.

this bottle seemed tired. tannic and "tight" at first. once it softened, it was just soft. blah overall. couldn't tell if it was bottle variation, or if the wine was actually done. didn't seem flawed, just flat.

My first bottle of this must've been an anomaly or I was just not reading it right - this wine showed really well on my 2nd bottle and perhaps the extra 6 years made the difference - the tannin has really softened and lets this wine shine with really nice wild cherry and savory notes.

Basic, with cherry, rose, clay. Sometimes got cured meat on the finish or a bit of cola.

Decanted for sediment. Medium ruby color, slightly garnet. Nose of sweet dried cherries, licorice, herbal cough drop, a little balsamic. Very nice. Similar flavors on the palate with a sweet red fruit attack with a bit of the balsamic coming through as well. The fruit is definitely more dried and slightly raisined at this point but in a good way. Acidity holding up, tannins have softened. A couple of extra years in bottle really worked well for this wine. Would …

A nice barolo that would benefit from a few more years on its side. The color is lovely...garnet with some brown edges in the glass. Aromas are intoxicating: deep raspberry and cherry scents. The flavors are very balanced and gain intensity as you let the wine dwell in your mouth for a few seconds, or if you're patient, 30 seconds. I tasted lots of cherries and berries and some earthy notes too, and maybe a hint of vanilla? Nice long …

I purchased three of the 2007 Azienda Virna Di Borgogno Barolo Riservas and there was drastic bottle variation. The first two were thin and a bit subdued (~87 pts), while my final bottle was a beautiful, elegant expression of Nebbiolo with aromas and flavors of sweet red cherry, cinnamon, orange rind and clove. Drinking well now, but should thrive for many years to come.

Presents all the traditional Nebbiolo characteristics - sour cherry, old leather, crushed flowers, wet clay. Too disjointed for me, feels hotter than the 14.5 stated, mouth puckering acidity and not in a complementary Barolo way. At 9+ this doesn't seem to be a maturity thing, i just don't think it's that enjoyable an example of the varietal.

Decanted for 30 mins. Light ruby color with garnet and bricking around the edges. Nose of cherry, menthol, florals, baking spices and roasted plum. Similar flavors on the palate with a sweet core of fruit and spice. Medium+ acid with sweet tannins. Moderate+ finish. This was a steal for the sale price paid.

My last bottle of this and it might have been the best: black cherry and nuance with plenty of earth. Fruity on the palate with great acidity. Outstanding.

Classic Barolo profile, with very high acidity. Definitely a food wine only

This was not what I'd expect from a Barolo Riserva....pleasant enough but fairly simple and not showing the classic characteristics I'd expect. Good acid and tannin but lacking in other departments.

Opened and served with no decanting. Relatively a forward Barolo, firm yet round and easily can be approached now. Good dark fruit across the wines profile and good acidity. But the wine also at this stage felt a bit blunt and uninspiring. Almost a "simple" wine if one adjusts for its pedigree. Good but not in anyway memorable at this stage. 88

Much bigger fruit than I had anticipated. Much bigger. Like "is this actually a California wine?" bigger. I do not mind fruit at all, but this was big (I think you get my drift at this point). Violets, blueberries and cassis on the nose with fruit up front followed by a little earth, acidity and a hint of tannins. Don't get me wrong, I really like this wine (it almost even got a "Whoa") but this is unlike any Barolo …
