Rich, fairly sweet honeyed peach with great spiciness. Bigger than a typical Schaefer Spätlese, in fact, more at Auslese+ residual sugar and weight, but this is absolutely delicious. More apple and slate, seems drier the second night.

This was the pick of the Schaefers on show - just beautiful. Perfectly balanced with real poise. Earth, fruit and flowers - nothing hugely expressive or shouty, just everything in its right place and complementary of the other elements. Sweetness, tension, drive and delicacy.

Drank too young. All primary fruit and still too sweet. Still enjoyed it but a little disappointed.

Deep yellow. Honeyed, fusel aromas with stone fruit and guava. Rich, transiently sweet entry featuring ripe, tropical fruit, then excellent acidity and stone. Something a bit off about the finish, though, not as pure as another bottle several years ago. Remarkable concentration-I must say it feels more like a Rheingau than a Mosel.

Drank at a casual dinner alongside friends, so no formal notes taken. Paired with spicy rice cakes, which was good but the spice was so much that it unfortunately overwhelmed some of the more delicate notes of this wine. The sips I had before food were excellent. Wonderful weight and creamy texture, lovely melange of orchard fruit, and a backbone of solid acid.

Medium yellow. Pure nectarine aromas. Medium weight, creamy feel, solid slate base. Off dry nectar of succulent stone fruit, apple, and citrus. Superb acid/fruit interplay and balance. What a wonderful wine and not the first 2008 recently to make me sit up and really take notice. It really doesn't get much better than Schaefer in the Mosel.

Deep golden colour. Candied citrus peel, tropical fruit and a hint of spice on the nose. Very well balanced sweetness and acidity, lots of fruit, hint of safron. Great Spätlese.

Fairly pronounced nose of tropical fruit. Primary, and fruit-forward, with red apple, tropical fruit, a bit of spritz. Quite sweet, with acidity that is especially notable in the finish. Longer than the 2001; riper fruit than the 2004. Good.

Really open nose, full of tropical fruit. Lovely ripeness of sweet juicy tropical fruit on the entry. It’s lush and intensely flavoured but really well poised with great acidity and the lightest touch of spice. Excellent.

Classic Spatlese. The kind you could drink everyday with food, even when it is this young.
