Medium gold color. Nose of sweet tarts, almond, almond skin, preserved orange, yogurt, slight oxidative notes, molasses. Medium alcohol, medium- body, medium- acidity. Slight almond skin bitterness on the palate which lingers in the medium length finish. Fascinating to drink an aligote from Morey St. Denis. You’d think Pinot Noir would be the way to go in a vineyard right above Clos de la Roche!

A curious and intellectual wine -- more fascinating than delicious. Long with deep, slightly oxidative notes but lacking a bit on the attack and mid-palate. Perhaps a wine to be studied more than enjoyed. I would drink up now, this felt slightly tired.

Aligote. A beast. Pure, intense and focussed. Lemon curd, spice, mineral. Long finish. Will hold off on the rest of the 6 pack for another 5 years. The other white burgundy. Not much on the nose but with time it will come out of its shell.

Really unique. Looks like nothing else in the world other than a white Burgundy but not really like Chardonnay. Always a pleasure to taste.

Dégustation du Domaine Ponsot (Club Chasse & Pêche) : Cette cuvée est bien connue pour être une sorte d'ovni dans la Côte d'Or, alors qu'elle seule peut revendiquer l'appellation premier cru, tout en étant composée entièrement... d'aligoté! Degustation Burgund 2016, Martel (Martel am Bellevue) : Eine Spezialität: 1er Cru Aligoté von über hundertjährigen Reben. Vom Ausbau scheint er mir dem den Chardonnays sehr ähnlich zu sein. Buttrig-weich, mineralisch und gute Säure. Im Abgang flacht etwas schnell ab. Es gibt nicht viel zu kritisieren, aber auch nichts Ausserordentliches zu loben.

Ponsot Tasting with Alexandre Abel (Chicago, IL) : The nose on this is excellent, with some green herbal spiciness that evokes a young riesling (probably more a question of being so young than any similarity between aligote and riesling). Clean and crisp, with really great freshness, and almost a touch of sweetness that helps round out the wine. Liked this one the most -- probably a function of its being so young.
