Hello everyone, I'm really starting to retire now. And even if I occasionally rate a wine, it will only be a re-tasted wine from my cellar, tasted at friends' houses, or at one or two former clients'. But no more primeurs or other new wines. For the occasion, I wanted to share with you my "ultimate" list of the greatest emotions of my life, which I strongly recommend you buy, at least one bottle, for your son's 20th birthday or …

Tasted again 3 days ago, Vite Talin and Le Vigne are magnificent this year but in my humble opinion, they are still beaten (for once) by the fabulous Aleste (Cannubis Boschi)

Cannubi Boschis Aged identically to Le Vigne, namely 25% new 500-liter barrels. Intense and generous nose of rose and blueberry with an earthy undertone. Surprisingly generous palate compared to Le Vigne, which I considered closed upon tasting. There is a beautiful concentration, supported by good acidity; it is already expressive and racy. Lovely black fruit, typical balsamic aromas, with floral and spice notes that complete this elegant and generous Barolo. Beautiful, slender finish of faded rose and spice. A successful …

Icons of piemonte; Barolo, Barbaresco & Friends (The Collective, The Rocks) : Slight caramel oak and sweet spice, fruit tea, alcohol prickle, touch of orange peel, muted red cherry fruit. Medium plus intensity acidity , caramel oak, muted red cherry fruit, drying grippy tannins close everything else down, .alcohol warmth on the finish. Not for me.

The 2020 Barolo Aleste is darker and richer than the surrounding wines, as crushed plums and sage are complicated by balsamic spice and hints of dark chocolate. It’s lifted and finessed within with a tart concentration of blackberries and sour citrus, adding tension toward the close. Rosy inner florals resonate as the 2020 tapers off structured yet juicy, leaving crisp tannins and a licorice tinge. (ninety-four)

A ripe and wooded nose with red and dark Nebbiolo fruit, tar, and some savory spice notes. This has decent depth and material, but is overdone, and has this odd bitter note and coarse tannins on the back end. If you like this style, ignore my note, but I’m not a fan.

2020 Barolo Masterclass at La Festa del Barolo (The Pool, New York) : Clear ruby center. Sweet, ripe fruit shares the stage with higher toned mint; this had a more fruit-driven nose than almost any other wine today. This carries through on the palate-medium weight, lush feel, sappy sweet red fruit, only moderate acidity, light earthy, and softer tannins. Generous, open, seamless, and round. Later, some citrus peel in the mix and the tannins start to firm up, suggesting that …

2024 Barolothon; 11/1/2024-11/4/2024 : PnP for three hours. The 2016 Luciano Sandrone Aleste opens with an intoxicating aromatic display of dark spices, black cherries, and that classic Barolo tar and roses signature, showing more immediate generosity than its Le Vigne sibling from the same vintage. The palate unfolds with waves of dark fruit – blackberries and plums – intertwined with notes of star anise, clove, and fresh tobacco, all carried on Sandrone's signature silky texture. Despite its relative approachability, there's …

A wine that blindly I would have thought could be located in Serralunga. It's been a while since I've drunk a Barolo with such thick, allappant tannin. Really difficult to drink without accompanying it with something to eat. I did not expect this from a 2016 especially from Sandrone. The aromatic profile at first was very varietal with ripe red fruits, some mint and roses. The next day the aromatic profile shifted to spices and herbs. As already mentioned with …

SU-BLI-ME!!!!! De loin, le plus grand Barolo que j'ai bu en 25 ans de dégustation et peutêtre même le plus grand vin italien. Fabuleux maintenant, il sera encore plus grand dans 10 ou 20 ans, pour ceux qui ont la patience

Ripe, perfumed Nebbiolo fruit on the nose, juicy and rich, but then you take a sip and this is all about finesse with floral flavors buoyed by bright acidity and little sense of weight. Very good but I never trust how Sandrone's wines will age.

Piemonte: Back to the truffling!; 11/24/2022-12/3/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants) : This is the winner of the tasting and I think if you had blinded us it would not have mattered because there is a tastiness and a power and structure to it that is just compelling. Lots of sandy and limestone soil. This was once upon a time a cannubi vineyard but the grandfather showed what family means (same grandfather who made sure when dolcetto was sellable that he …

This is very good but nowhere near ready. Initially the oak is what hits you but with time this begins to integrate. Dried black cherry, leather, spice, salty mineral and rose. Denser and darker than most Barolo’s but not totally modern in style. Needs 10 years so glad to have a magnum left.

Really intense, tight and with sharpness, the aromas settle as a protective layer over the edge of the glass. At the same time, the charm of the Cannubi vineyards unfolds. Fabulous spring roses over delicious raspberries, orange fruit peel, wet forest and with hints of tar and gunpowder. Beautiful touch on this full-bodied wine with fabulous energetic mouthfeel. The body almost trembles. Delicious rich red fruit with a slope towards cherries, ripe orange peel, dried forest, salts, light wood and …
