Deep purple, which was to expected as the flesh is colored. Medium intensity youthful nose with black fruits and only a very light herbaceous touch. Dry, medium acidity, medium tannin, medium alcohol, medium(+) body, medium(+) intensity palate with same components as the nose and some minerality. Medium(+) finish. A different profile than earlier vintages. Much more ripe, juicy and fruit forward. Dark ruby/purple color. More fruit forward aromas and flavors of dark cherry, raspberry, vanilla, fresh herbs, tobacco, graphite and a slight hint of pine needles. Touch of black licorice on the long and lingering finish. Soft tannins. Very deep and complex. Consistently great mountain red.

Fumin is a grape variety indigenous to Valle d’Aosta. In this rendition by Les Crêtes it delivers a solid wine, with good colour and good (red and black) fruit, but with little definition in its expression. It’s a bit blunt and monolithic, with juicy tannins, a slightly metallic acidity and yes, a cold smoke finish. Good enough as a drink with hearty foods, but not very interesting on its own.
