My last bottle. It's still very dark in color. Good weight, good structure. Dark fruit flavors. Tertiaries are starting to emerge. I'm glad I popped it. It's at a good stage.

Either this is finally coming together or it is going through a good phase. It's better balanced, well rounded, no noticeable heat and although it is pure fruit, it doesn't come off as a fruit bomb. One more bottle left.

A bit sweeter than I remember. This may be getting better. Some mineral notes along with the fruit give this an additional layer of complexity. Will wait another year to see how this gets.

Didn't like this as much as the previous bottles. Didn't seem to matter if pop and pour, through Vinturi or with 45-75 minutes of air. Seemed rougher with the meaty aspects turned earthy but not in a good way.

Deep cherry appearance. Earthy, minerally nose of pencil shavings, cherries, violets and a whiff of rubber. It possesses a medium-body, sultry texture, and notes of cherries, spiced plums, blackberries, spices, and chocolate. Has a surge of intensity and richness on the back end before closing with a lip smacking finish. Tasty, vibrant, and sexy.

Deeper, more penetrating but somewhat sweeter. This is nice to have on its own or maybe with BBQ or a stew with some raisins or dry fruits something to go with the sweetness. Finish is brief but dry.

Aromas of smoky boysenberry and black cherry, with the sweet character of fresh blackberry jam. On the palate it's a bit shy at first, but as it opens it blossoms into violets, complex red and black berries, hints of wood underneath copious vanilla cream. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre. Lacks the minerality typical of the Rousillon, but an excellent expression of the quality possible here.

This was the last of the red from Hecht & Bannier, and at $20 wasn't worth the price. It wasn't a bad little wine though. Grenache based unlike the specific villages, but blended with that same higher elevation Syrah, Cinsault and Mouvedre. A thin clear rim show some concentration in this red and because of the hot summer of '09 the ABV was slightly above 15%. This, like the other wasn't see through, but not opaque either. I first tried at a wine at a tasting I hosted last month, I was very impressed as well as the guests. It was the first red after sampling 3 whites. I finally was able to taste on its own.
