Hilberg-Pasquero Barbera d'Alba

Third bottle over the past three months and disappointing. The first bottle seemed unusual for a Barbera as it had more Sangiovese qualities, but it drank beautifully over three days. this one and the second both had raisiny fruit, and chalky, drying tannins. While I would give the first a 91-92, these both deserve an 85 at best.

Nice Barbera. The usual acidity was beautifully balanced with full body. I wish I had bought more.

maybe I'm missing something but this did not do anything for me. I definitely did not get all the 'dark fruit' notes described elsewhere. A bit disappointing.

I have been trying to learn more about Barbera's. This Hilberg (RP 90)is striking. Chewy texture with a medium to long finish. Full bodied. Nice. The 2006 Germano Ettore Barbera d' Alba that we had at the same time in comparison is light and almost like a dolcetto. Once again, it needs an hour to open up.

Needs 1 hour to open up. Then a nice, balanced full bodied daily quality red at a good price. Great value If you want to try Barbera, this is a good place to start.
