Not fully developed yet. Dark color, restrained nose. Dried dark and red fruit, cocoa, chocolate, raisins. Medium finish with remarkable tannins, nearly no sweetness. Conservative character especially for an Amarone…

Decanted. After a 4 month drying time the wine is pressed and fermented over a 40 day period. Ageing takes place in French oak casks (70% barrels of 225 litres and 30% in barrels of 500 litres, all new barrels) for 24 months. Corvina 65% Corvinone 15% Rondinella 10% Oseleta 10%- Scented with notes of dried cherry, prune, autumn leaves, chestnut, cedar, tobacco and light hints of cocoa and turned earth. Full and enveloping on the palate revealing a more …

Cherry, cinnamon, and spices on the nose. Fairly tannic, some tart cherry fruit, and a little earthiness. Short finish.

Not bad, a bit thin when compared to Castellare but hey, its Castellare. and nicely matured too.

I'm not sure this is to be viewed as a typical Amarone, for its body is much sleeker and the fruit is much less sweet/raisiny than expected. It is not a complex or structured wine in any sense, but has lots of warmth, cocoa, oak/vanilla, yummy dark berries, tannins rolling in late. Comfortable drinking.

Drinks like a Bunello di Montalcino. Nice tannins, soft body short finish.

I bought this to drink because I couldn't remember what an Amarone was like. This probably gives a fair idea, but my memory is that they are better than this one. This is thick, hearty, almost syrup-like, and you indeed taste the raisiny quality from the ripasso technique. It's ok. Not a wine I'd pursue, but not something distasteful. Try it with a stew.

Roasted, shriveled fruit, and dark chocolate aromas. Raisiny, full-bodied palate. Notes of plums, dried figs, and minerals. Picks up spices on the back end and a pleasant bitterness on the modest finish.

Very ripe red fruit with a dried raisin quality I expected. Balanced acidity and easy to drink. Medium body, moderate length finish.

A very solid Amarone, especially for the price. It is sweet, and builds as you drink. Great for those who enjoy sweeter reads, not as great for those who do not.

Glengarry Grand Tasting - Day 2; 9/1/2014-9/2/2014 (Glengarry Wines and Spirits, Victoria Park, Auckland, New Zealand) : Aroma of dark earth and black cherry. Sweet top notes in a slightly monolithic nose. The palate is also currently on the monolithic side. Tannic and chocolatey, big acids. Earthy and hot (15%) finish. Very good,

quite a basic Amarone, med bodied, lacks the richness & powerful of the more classic Amarone. Still can be enjoyable as a light Amarone...

Pleasant but no distinct amarone flavors. Also, this was really too hot to fully enjoy.

Jammy, spice, "vino velvet", with a not-unpleasant bit of RS. There are a lot of better amarones, but none are only $20 (at Trader Joe's, I believe it's their house brand.)

Moderately translucent dark ruby red. Very dark-toned, rich and opulent nose with aromas of pruney dark fruit, cherry jam, some herbal notes, a little dark chocolate oak aromas and an overhanging veil of alcohol (15%). Quite rich and sweet on the palate with obvious alcohol heat. Bold flavors of ripe plummy fruits, sweet figs, blackberries, peppery spice, sweet cherry notes and moderately pronounced oak spice. Quite pronounced, firm tannins and balanced acidity, keeping the voluminous, full body in check. Overall …

A very nice example of ripasso. Full body, dried dark cherry and blackberry. Well balanced acidity and a dry finish. Not overly complex, but tastes good, and isn't that the point?

Not so alcoholic and rich as Amarone, but has the fruit character. Nice medium-full body, OK acid. Stood up to Indian food, so a sturdy wine.

Bright garnet red and medium bodied, there’s sweet sangiovese red fruits right up front including dried cranberry, Ranier cherry, and some strawberry. Not much oak or tannin, not too sweet, well balanced and very dinner-friendly. This is a wine I could drink regularly.

Time to drink up. Mature cherries and and "old tannins". But a match to our dish "komla med saltkjøett". A sort of dumlings made of potaes, together with salted lambmeat. But it time to drink up this vintage .

A nose of cherry, cassis, bitter almond, cinnamon apple and liquorice. Medium bodied and refreshing on the palate with a touch of tannin. Liquorice and slight leather towards the mid-length finish. Quite ok.
