Tasting this vintage after nearly 3 years. Made from Carignan based blend with 14% Malbec and 1% Cinsault harvested from 73 year old vines. Deep garnet red, ruby hue. Medium+ intensity aroma of smoke, smoked meat, dried tomatoes, dried rose petals, dried plum hints. Medium body, complex palate with juicy, sourish and smoky dried red and black fruit flavours, medium+ well integrated acidity, structured and rich fine grained tannins, long spiced and smoky finish.

Still underdeveloped. Very dark color, fruity nose, a bit restrained in the beginning. Very powerful. Velvet texture. Exotic bouquet. Medium length. Baby stage. You should wait for 2-4 more years.

From the 4.5 ha La Aguada vineyard in Maule valley, dry farmed vines planted in 1955, horse-ploughed, field blend of predominantly Carignan (85%), with numerous other varieties including Malbec and Cinsault, co-fermented with ambient yeasts and aged in a 5000 litre foudre for two years, 13.5% ABV, bottled in 6,439 bottles and 60 magnums. Not an easy wine to assess. At six years of age still quite reduced on the nose, where the fruit hides behind the aromas of truffle …

(17/20) Super juicy and excellent blend of 85% Carignan and 15% field blend, aged in large 5000l vats for 24 months. Complex, bit strict, very mineral. Medium+ intense aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, raspberry, redcurrant, cedar, toast, cigar leaves, espresso, black tea, bay leaf, green pepper, wet stone. Dry wine, medium+ acidity, medium and fine-grained tannins, medium body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish. 13,5% - thanks Joël Vereycken

As a Carignan-lover, I expected a lot more from this wine. Blackberry, bramble, and violet on the nose, following through to the medium-full bodied palate. Not a heck of a lot of complexity and clipped on the finish. I hope additional cellaring will transform this wine into something more interesting. Very disappointing for the price, especially compared to other Carignan "Vigno" bottlings from other Chilean producers.
