Cockburn's, Late Bottled Vintage Port

Strawberry jam on the nose, spicy, leather, driwd fruit, Some tannin here and a slightly dirty oloroso sherry type note, very sweet balanced by a tangy acidity. Quite a nice tawny. Not one of my favourites

Smooth, glossy palate of ripe cherry and fruit cake and some spice. Nice but lacks some complexity, I prefer other 10 year Tawnies.

NobleRottersSydney - something impressive (Glass Brasserie, Sydney) : {cork, 20%} [Stephen] Cold tea and brown leaves. A kind of liquid old wood character. Warmly spirity on the palate. Medium weight. Not overly sweet, more about ancient barrels and dusty old leather than fruit remnants. Medium length finish. Tidy.

Pronounced nose intensity with notes of cooked red cherry, charr wood toast, smoke.

Old bottle, a bit oxidized. Cloudy and dark amber in the glass. Delicious golden raisins, figs, toffee, cognac and candied nuts. None of the “communion wine” taste as in some other ports. Opened for 3 days so far. Getting better and more intense in all the right ways with each passing day, a dessert in its own right.

Opened after Thanksgiving dinner, alongside desserts. In the glass, seems misty somewhat, amber in color. Nutty flavor, hints of caramel, not too sweet. Less silky than other comparable tawny ports, easy to drink.

By the glass. Bitter almonds on the nose followed by memories of panetonne of candied oranges. A wine simply evocative. The palate is rich and balanced with a aftertaste of fruit Christmas pudding (!). I would have liked more depth. Still surprising for a winery that does not work very well in Spain. Por copas. This reminded me a great deal of Dow's 10 years old tawny - a dark medium weight port with moderate sweetness and more freshness than I recalled this type of port to have. There was even an agreable tannic edge to the finish. Dow's seems, however, to me be more focused and claret-like.

Lovely darker orange color, caramel and raisin on the nose. Taste of dried peach and raisin, caramel on the palate. Initially medium burn that blows over with a little time, retains some spices, generally balanced and mouthwatering.

Purchased for $50 and opened for #tawnytuesday. Burnt amber tawny in color with garnet hues. Lovely nose of toffee, vanilla stone fruit. On the palate, lots of the same with the stone fruit morphing into peach and nectarines. Almost hints of peach tea. I love the play between the vanilla and stone fruit. The mouthfeel is luxurious, almost like a cashmere sweater. So soft and elegant. Yet the acidity is still vibrant and lip-smacking. There's a sight bitter orange note …

After a few months opened under cork, this is absolutely singing! Amazing length, complexity, build and richness. Medium sweetness with amazing acidity. Tannins are no more. This is the kiss of sheer perfection with just a minor mini-flaw: the finish has a quirky unpleasant small streak of burnt hair. Other than that, this is perfection!

Yummy wine but I prefer the 10 year.

A lovely glass to fire up the evening, together with a little bit of aged Gouda and a lovely, creamy Brie with ammonia aromatics. Light tawny Beautiful, elegant nose Long, balanced magical, non-neurotic taste that is simply a zen monk in meditation. Sheer balance.

Kept open under cork for a good while now, allowing this to get into its stride. 2nd btl and not making the mistake to consume too close to plop. Pale, tawny, transparent, impossible to discern whether made white or red… Nose: super balanced, subdued, rich, restrained, amazing… Per os: fabulously restrained, fantastic with a happy twist of tannins. This is the stuff that wet dreams are made of when port wine is on the table… This is the abiturienter shit!

Totally discombobulated on day 1. Came together from day 2 and was excellent, smooth and savory. Finished off with some Edam and sardines.

{bottled 2016, 500ml, cork, 20%} Golden brown. Mature nose of figs and caramel, wood and white pepper. The palate follows along, seemingly very alcoholic and fumey, wood-dominated, with some of those spice and nut flavours in the background. Sits very much on the front of the tongue, with a warm, medium-dry sort of finish. It’s not bad, but not something you’d seek out.

Always one of my favorite Tawny Ports. I enjoy the 10 year over the older versions. I recently tasted a 2013 bottling and this was the 2020 and both were fantastic.

Light coloured, very tasty.

Excellent tawny port. Good balance of fruit and acidity. Nice rancio, smooth and sweet, good length.

Addendum: Final glass together with a medium-aged, plain Pecorino, this is absolutely singing. Easily beating the crap out of so many more "prominent" Ports. Bought a few years older brother on sight, and am afraid I will continue to do so. 50-year-old Ports are beginning to get there. And I love being on the same train. MJUFF!

Upon opening, bland. Basically a cheap port without a face. After some time under cork, it starts unfurling itself beautifully. This note is from 3 months into this bottle's life on my "drink-shelf". Obviously, the drink by date is inaccurate since I purchased this bottle today at Costco. The ports in my cellar have 2040+ drink dates and I just wanted something to drink over the weekend. It’s filled with sweet plums and figs! Fine for 20 bucks and short term consumption.

Botttled 2016 dus oogst 2006. Lekker zacht maar in de nasmaak wat scherper in de keel. Gedroogde vruchten en iets van caramel. Deze keer wel helder rood maar geen bruin tintje. Vakantiehuisje heeft ander li ht dan thuis.

Walnuts and figs and happiness...

A very unique tasting tawny. Rich plum, with a hint of citrus caramel and honeysuckle on the nose. Butterscotch on the plate with a subtle note of vanilla. Full, rich palate with a pleasant acidic finish.

Almost orange in color, with some amber. A fresher, slightly lighter style of Tawny from my perspective. Notes of red fruit, caramel, orange zest, some tobacco notes and smoke. It‘s medium+ bodied (in the context of port), has good medium-high acidity and medium tannin, the sweetness is medium+ and well balanced by the acidity. Good length. Not the last word about complexity, but a nice fresh Tawny that feels somehow younger than 20 years.

The nose featured caramel, candied orange, and brown sugar. A lighter bodied style, with the palate leaning towards a reddish, spicy flavor profile (reminding me of rye whiskey). A bit diluted for a Stilton pairing on a winter night. But apparently that's not really what this bottling is built for, as the label recommends serving lightly chilled in warmer weather.

Bottled in 2017, 0,5 litre bottle. An underwhelming showing, especially for a major Port House. The nose is fine, with shriveled currants, candied fruit and nuts, molasses, dates, figs, and caramel all making an appearance, while smoke lingers in the background. But wood takes center stage on the palate, in a big way, where woody, white pepper intensity expands through more woodspice on the finish. The wood-driven profile didn't speak to me. Maybe it needs lots of air.

Smells like a Cockburn, or maybe it’s that nuttiness of a bone-dry Sherry. Nuts and gym socks sitting in rubber. Does not disappoint, coming through in the end with a sharp zing of energy and a finish that lasts to infinity; like a Sherry would. Really good.

I consumed one or two ounces a day until the 500 ml. bottle was finished. Sort of a burnished cordovan color. Prunes, figs, and caramel toffee on the nose. On the palate, nuts mingle with fruit and honey. I enjoyed this but likely would give a higher score to the 20-year tawny. I am surprised that only 60% of CellarTracker posts indicated that they liked the wine, but it was from a very small number of people which could skew …

20 Year Old Tawny Ports (Sammamish, Washington) : Bottled in 2015. Clear, amber-orange in color. Vanilla and hints of cigar box on the nose. Intense mouthfeel with some pralines and some light cloves.

Currants, raisins, caramel, molasses, figs and dates, but overall not really convincing. Will not buy again.

2016 Port Harvest Tour; 9/18/2016-9/25/2016 (Portugal) : Amber orange in color. Dark, clear appearance. Subtle cigar box and orange peel on the nose. Full-bodied, subtle orange and some light spirit. Slight nuttiness on the finish. Balanced, elegant wine.
