Mystery wine evening (Restaurant Lion's, Stuttgart) : Glass: Unsuited white wine glass Popped and poured. Beautiful Mosel Auslese. Classic Schaefer balance and harmony, but also very fresh. Quite complex, beautiful tension and energy, complex and long. Drink now. 92-93

Drinking nicely, does not have the sweetness associated with an Auslese. There is sufficient acid at the end to balance the weight on the palate. Wouldn't not have been able to guess it as Auslese if tasted blind.

Acidity lacking, drink up

Tasted at Epicurus Gourmet. Brief note. Nose is like someone had a major spill at a gas station then proceeded to light it on fire and throw tropical fruits in. Palate was singing with brown sugar and spiced baked apples, canned stone fruits, dried apricots, herbal lemon and super clean slate mineralit�. Yes, it has some notes of maturity (firn and petrol), but they either vanish with air or blend in with the other aromas to a wonderful and complex perfume: Herbs like mint and woodruff, elder flower, exotic fruits, a bit of honey all infused and mixed with slate. Right out of the bottle, the nose is explosive, with layers of exotic and rich fruits, honey and petrol. The palate is very sweet but not overly cloying, with some nice acids on the finish promising a very long life ahead.

Varied bottles of interest : Lime, pineapple, spice and subtle white floral notes. The palate has good purity and sweetness, with some mouth-watering acidity lifting the wine as a whole. I last tried this a couple of years ago and it is has not had a chance to change much yet. I also tried the Auction GK Auslese #15 a few months back and it was a large step up in depth and excitement, despite that I really enjoyed this …

Lovely richness with good acidity. Delicious.

Palate: Paired w/the chou-croute, this mirrored well the swt meatiness of the dish,showing nice old leaves, quite a bit of age, like an old beer, malty, but still structured--drinking very nice and grt char.
