As always, a lovely Champagne. Green apples, apricot, and melon, underpinned by well integrated acidity. While Gosset no longer uses oak, it sure tastes like there’s some oak! Just a fantastic wine.

Deep toasty nose. Oxidative style, rich palate with high-toned stone fruit, dried fruit and a long finish. In a great place now, loved this.

WTDS at Porzana (Porzana, Mpls) : Light gold color. Drank a glass over an hour. Dulce de leche, light to moderately oxidative, baked apple, patisserie cream, Tart Tatin, dried apricots, plenty of dry extract on the finish. There's a lot of minerality that adds to this. Complex, long and underrated in general. 93+ to 94pts.

In magnum. Really easy to enjoy. Fresh, more so than expected given its age. Would last many years longer in my view (admittedly I do like mature Champagne). Well balanced, not hugely complex

Lizzie St Supper Club (Lizzie St, London) : Once again from a beautiful magnum . Even managed to sabre this. Bright and energetic, firm, still youthful and full of charm, has a richness to it but it is really more of a mineral and more to the leaver side of things . Beautiful aperitif and dare we say understated value.93+

Not an Ordinary Monday (Lorenzo's , London) : From a beautiful magnum and ever such a great way to start a celebration. The wine now drinks exceptionally well and impressively this is more mineral and focused than we would have guessed as usually their wines are richer and rounder. Still impressively good and of course adding the magnum effect this just delivered the biz. An easy 93

(Disgorged in 2020, 43% Pinot Noir and 57% Chardonnay, dosage 3 gr/L) Yellow apples, minerals and candied lemons and opens up with some hints of chocolate in a very pleasant way. Intense and vibrant palate showing an intense yellow plums acidity with a pleasant creaminess before the lengthy finish transforming it all into a delightful red grapefruit bitterness. Light golden colour still showing its youth and indeed, this wine is still on the young side to truly show its colour. When cold, it was tart, steely and the acid overwhelmed the palate. However, with time, warmth and food, it evolved to be an excellent wine - brioche, apple, citrus, creamy (but not too much) and a sprightly finish. This was sour and acidic on opening. With a few hours it was better. With bruised apple, pear, brioche and yeasty, tons of citric acid. Very sharp with the acidic leading as citric. (Blind tasting) Still a bit youthful. Apple and bread. White chocolate. Citrus backbone. Very classic. Balanced. Medium-fullish, fullish body. Apples and fruit. Harmonius and creamy. Very classic. High acidity, but not piercing. Hints of bread and dark chocolate. Very good balance, but lacks a bit of intensity. Good now, but could be cellared further.

2007 Gosset Celebris is really good if you like a big, rich, masculine Champagne. Lots of citrus and orchard fruit. This can stand up to almost any food you pair with it. Very low dosage. Is it worth $135? Personally I prefer my Champagne a lighter and more crisp with a bit more dosage.

Nose of caramel, tart - this has dried out a bit from my last good bottle, ginger, apple/pear. Some brioche/creme elements. At walkabout tasting (no notes taken) a very good showing of this cuvee yet again. Not quite to the level of the amazing 02 of course, but this too is very distinctive and leaves a mark on the palate.

Tasting with Olivier Bernstein (Bourbon Steak, Washington D.C.) : Slightly coiled nose displaying sweet ripe yellow fruit, lemon curd, baked apple, brioche and mineral. Very good concentration, coiled yellow citrus fruit, rich yet nicely focused, very fine medium abundant mousse, bright acidity, medium mineral and a medium to long sweet yellow fruit driven finish. It lacks the finesse of the top tete de cuvees.

Kathy liked so much we opened a second bottle to enjoy with the Grilled Salmon on the BBQ, nose of brioche, slate, pineapple, and white peach, same on the palate, medium/big body, purchased in 2005, very tasty, mature flavors, at peak or slightly past peak drinking, lovely mousse in the glass formed from medium amount of fine bubbles, pale straw gold color, rich tasting and elegant, and a long, long, flavorful finish and aftertaste. Opened quietly at cellar temperature. No pop or even gasp as the cork came out but very healthy showing of bubbles with the first two glasses, this settled into a very delicate flow of the finest bubbles. There has been commentary about Gosset wines oxidising badly and there was a hint of this on the nose initially but this sweetened into late season orchard fruits quickly. On the palate, quince, late season apples and pears - very rich and creamy. …

Second Sunday Group: 2012 Napa Cabernets (Rich's & Dana's) : Deep yellow color with notes of peach, melon, apple strudel, marzipan and pastry dough. Soft mousse with a fine bead. Apple, hazelnut and cherry flavors with a lingering finish. Rich and powerful but with a sense of refinement. Terrific.

No maderization. The cork "popped" and expanded modestly. There was a healthy effervescence with moderate bubbles initially but after the initial pour, bubbles were very scarce. Carbonation was mostly felt on the tongue rather than visualized. A persistent mild spritz existed for 2 hours. There was no nose, extinguished by the lack of bubbles. Passade väldigt bra till foie gras, dock som med en hel del 90or så balanseras inte syran upp av mellansegmentet. Trevlig frisk doft , initialt med lite oxidationstoner som snabbt försvann. Lite mineraler, någon antydan till smörkola. Bra syra men balansen fanns inte rikigt där.

Dennis' summer tasting : More complex and sweeter, more developed, than the 1996 Clos de Goisses. At the same time it is less intense. A slight sherry note. Another very nice champagne in a more rustique style.

I've had this wine many times, but not in the past year. The last 2 bottles I've had recently showed oxidative notes, but this is much more prevalent now. The mousse is still fine & the texture luxurious, but the flavors are going more in the direction of an amontillado.A great vintage from a fine producer, but time to drink up.

Yellow gold, with a touch of pink. Nose of butterscotch and biscuits, palate of honey, candied fruits and dried cherry. Smooth, silky mousse. Still very much alive ... I think it's still developing its "pastry" notes. Very enjoyable, if a bit pricey at $110.

Grand Cru Burgundy Dinner (Troquet, Boston) : To celebrate Matt's new baby, he brought this bubbly. Not too dark, not overly big. A pleasant champagne with yeasty, toasty notes but some astringency and a spare amount of bubbles. THere's probably better value out there but this was a pleasant start to the evening.

Beautiful golden color, gorgeous mousse of various sizes. Nose of candied fruit and sweet cakes, palate of dried cherry and apple. Lovely melt-in-your-mouth texture, light mouthfeel. Long, soft, cohesive finish. My only complaint was that with air the wine lost some concentration.
