First of a case PNP and tasted over 3 hours. This was showing a bit of bricking in color. Nose a bit tight at open, with some roasted fruit. On the palate there was decent red cherry fruit but tannin still quite prominent. With 2.5 hours of air this was more integrated, and the fruit seemed to be more in balance. Decanted 1.5 h prior to tasting. Does not give away much on the nose except a weird bitterness. In the mouth, completely flat and lifeless, very limited fruit. Not sure exactly what is going on, but suspect this is one of those minimal cork taints that spoils the wine without coming across as a typical cork taint.

Bottle 3018 Same characteristics as last time, but this bottle was less balanced and had less fruit but therefore some dominant acidity, so this time it’s just a 93 for me. I paired it with homemade Gnocchi with Gorgonzola cheese to combine it’s burgundy attributes with something creamy. But, well, maybe I am more a Fuligni guy when it comes to bdm.

PnP. Lingonberries, rose hip, tart cherries, sage, clay. Loads of pure red fruit, ending with a spicy twist and a little tannic bite. This has developed nicely and is in a sweet spot at the moment: fresh and energetic, and at the same time silky and harmonious. Very, very pretty. Surely a lighter style for a Brunello, actually reminded me of a Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Rosé if that makes sense. So open and forward – ridiculously drinkable.

Impressions on day one: The body is on the light side for a BDM, nose and fruit is dominated by ripe sour cherries, then there are some spicy and a few earthy notes behind the fruit, acidity is perfectly balanced and the tannins are ultra fine, which makes the wine vital and alive. Delicious, as expected. Like nearly all of the other '12s I've had, the vintage is squarely in its drinking window. Perhaps save the riservas a few more years, but the rest are great now. I've really enjoyed the vintage, which might speak more to my palate than anything else critics have written about the hot growing season. Shoba tasted notes of "cherry Coke"! She said it didn't even taste like wine, which for her is the big fruity Cali cabs.

Really earthy cherry flavours. Good freshness, 14% alcohol, firm but softening tannins, that support rather than overpower. There is of course tertiary leather here but at this juncture it is not overpowering the fruit. Medium plus weight. Long and complex. Single bottle gift from a friend. Tasted alongside the 2015 Rosso. This has more depth to it than the rosso with darker plum fruit and a lovely chocolate note. Still has good cut and tannins are in a good place. I think this is the first 2015 Brunello I’ve tried despite having gone long on the vintage. Certainly very approachable now.

Bright ruby color with dark pink edge. Intense floral nose of rose water and red licorice. On the palate, there are light red berries & leather. Sandy tannins lead into a long finish of earth. Tannins most prominent on gums and cheeks. This was certainly too young, but still enjoyable at this stage. It is intense, but ethereal and a fantastic food companion.

Same bottle as collector and WOTN for me. My experience with Marroneto has been a mixed one. While I simply do not understand the fuzz about Madonna delle Grazie, which from my little tasting experience (06/07/10/12) is one of those a little too hard worked Brunellos lacking elegance, balance and aromatics, I have found the regular Marroneto BdM more interesting but quite inconsistent in quality across vintages. Really beautiful Sangiovese that was singing tonight. i think that Alessandro Mori from Il Marroneto has been producing some of the best Brunellos in the past 10 years and is now in the absolute top league. Try this bottle and his top cuve Madonna delle Grazie which has received 100 points twice already in 2010 and 2016.

Wine really opened up after aeration and 2 hour decant. This is on the more elegant, lighter side of a Brunello but has a delicious juicy, cherry flavor profile. Long, elegant and satisfying finish that is well balanced and long.
