Eperosa, Elevation Shiraz, Barossa Valley

One of the first Nouveau Barossa wines. Unmistakably dry grown Barossa Shiraz. But light footed, silky, and smouldering. Brett Grocke, the winemaker, is a viticulturist by day. He makes this (plus other) handmade, minimal intervention wines in his spare time. The fruit is sourced from the best barrels of three small Shiraz blocks on Eperosa's Magnolia Road Vineyard planted in 1965 (40%), 1996 (40%) and 2010 (20%), that sits 325m above sea level, hence the 'Elevation' name. Clean fruited style although certainly shows some heat and mild astringency in the back palate. Fruits are simple and in the classic Barossa style; sweet but hard not to like. This wine is fairly young and should develop well over the past 5 years.
