Found another bottle - one of the positive benefits of shoddy inventory controls. ;^) Consistent with my last note, this is excellent right now - at 15 years old, this wine has really come into its own, with sweet & sour white fruits, decent acidity and an expansive palate presence. It is becoming apparent that I drank most of my stash far too young - the wine has never been better, and while I don't believe it will improve at …

Bronze-colored in the glass; slate and sweet/ripe white fruits on the nose. Still has decent acidity for lift - pretty dry and medium-bodied on the palate. Sweet & sour white fruits, with good persistence. Unfortunately, I think this is my last bottle.

Yellow-gold in the glass; pineapple on the nose. Fairly dry on the palate - the nose "smells" sweeter than the wine tastes. Bright acidity. I like this quite a bit as a "stand-alone" wine, but my better half thought it was too sweet.

Light golden in the glass, with a great nose featuring ripe pineapple and slate/rocks. Tart and ripe white fruits, nice persistence, medium-bodied. Probably at peak right now, although no hurry if you have it in the cellar.

Golden colored, probably a shade or two darker than the Hiedler GV I opened earlier. Great nose, nicely evolved, with white fruit cocktail and a slate nuance. Sweet & sour fruit, nice persistence on the finish, quite dry - drinking very nicely today, and striking me as mature at this time.

Gold/bronze in the glass; great nose with ripe pineapple seemingly marinated in slate. The nose would lead you to look for a hint of sweetness and "richness" on the palate, but this is dry and even a bit lean. Sweet & sour; nice, but I've had better bottles of this.

Light yellow gold in the glass, with a nose of honeyed pineapple. Bone dry on the palate, ample acidity, lean/taut. This is (I believe) my first bottle in quite a while - nice, but not the best bottle I've had of this.

Wedding Celebration-Day 2 (The Bride and Groom's Home, San Francisco) : Medium yellow. Ripe aromatics and entry. Despite this, dry, mineral finish after an initial impression of glossiness and some residual sugar.

Plug of tartrates just under the membrane. Lanoliney, slight diesel. I found it soft and falling apart, but Jennifer thought it had copious acid. This is too rich a wine, too high in dry extract, to ever warrant grandness. Out of balance.

Friday night at home with a curried shrimp dish. Delicious wine and food pairing.

This one is all about making an impact. Hits you straight away with a scent that suggests that kerosene and diesel were just strained through a bed of rocks, then in the mouth the minerality is so dominant and expansive that it feels more solid than liquid (and certainly doesn't taste like anything that could have come from grapes). With a little air some bright lemon and pear fruit emerges with a faint glyceral sweetness - this is incredibly rich …

Tuesday night - vacation week - Lee, Gary and Dean over for dessert and dominos. A good time was had by all. JRV participated too - and drank this wine.

2006 Gaisberg and Heiligenstein Riesling (Vin Vino, Palo Alto) : Now this is a different animal altogether, with intense orange blossom on the nose. Fat fruit (including the rhubarb described by Terry Thiese) without sweetness, large scaled, great mouth feel, yet it remains clean and brought into balance and focus by a lengthy finish that is shot through with quinine. I just loved this.

Awesome dry Riesling. Nose is full of lemon and petrol. Mouth of stone fruits. Racy acidity but also creamy. Killer with food.
