A blend of 5 autochthonous grapes from Abruzzo - Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Negroamaro, Malvasia and Primitivo. Which feels like someone is trying to prove a point. But they needn’t have bothered as it turned out as oak juice anyway.

Diam cork, no sign of seepage High ullage, decanted and tasted over 24h. No significant sediment. V: deep purple, opaque Aromas of vanilla and some char P: didn’t really evolve, there was a distinct flavour profile of bitter and overripe fruit in this wine. Definitely not my style. I unecessarily slogged through a bottle in 2 nights but should have used it for cooking. Blend of sangiovese, montepulciano, negroamaro, nero d’avola and another varietal. Drink, hold to 2027 or avoid …

While strictly speaking this wine does not bear a vintage but rather the sequential production number, this bottle should be ca 10 years old. The wine still gives great joy (see my other notes). However I am not really sure it has evolved, in fact it anything it might have start approaching the end of the drinking window. Enjoy now!

This bottle was very good. The plummy richness is well balanced by the chalky "dustiness" and the abundant tannins. One bottle to go, will consume by next year. But if you have more you could keep some longer, I suppose, though I wouldn't expect any new insights from that.

Like last time where I was pointing back to my TN of January 11th, 2019. But not as impressive this time. Two bottles to go, my window closing after 2022.

Puissant! Peut faire encore plusieurs années. Petit bémol a mon goût, le sucre risiduel est facilement perceptible.

Not for purists, Baccalaro's idea of picking autochthonous grapes of different regions and assembling them in a dark purple fruit bomb is in my view a success. Black cherries, plums, blackcurrants, vanilla, mocha, chocolate, oak, leather, menthol, herbs, spices do not compete with each other but harmonise with the tannins and the acidity to deliver true drinking pleasure.

Rich, soft, round, sweet, powerful. Simple, balanced, sweet Southern Italian power. A fruit bomb but in a good way. Very enjoyable without pretence. Drinking well and for several years.

This is now peaking in my view. TN by and large identical to my last one dated Jan 11th, 2019, except that this bottle was consistent throughout without any yoyo effet. Very extracted and I love it. 3 bottles to go, yay ! Will use up by 2022, but this could keep longer if you have more.

This wine is filling into itself, both primitivo/monte are now dancing in perfect harmony. Still rich, powerful & with great length. For those who know this wine m, the primitivo is now not as chocolate sweet up front & rather having as a dessert cheese wine, it’s now a rib eye main course wine. Will try again in another 6 mnths.

Private Extraction Bomb Marathon; 12/23/2018-2/1/2019 (At Our Homes) : Nice ripe black forest berries, chocolate and some black currant against good puckery tannins. This is worlds apart from my first bottle almost 4 years ago which must have been spoilt. Glad I have 4 more bottles. Notice that day 2 seems to drop a little, and for some reason day 3 reached the level of day 1 again. That yoyo effect is consistent with the observation of my first bottle. …

Complex black fruits and violets with softness and approachability, yet length. How well will it age? I think better than first impressions might suggest. A lovely wine.

Another wine that rarely if ever lets me down. A lovely balance between power and dry elegance. Packs a fruit driven punch up front but doesn’t hit twice rather it integrates and tightens nicely with drying tannins with soy, olive and clove. My wife simply can’t take big or sweet wines and she loved this. Super pleasant experience. Lovely balance.

Cork. 14% alc. A blend of Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Primitivo, Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera. A rich, dark colour that hints at the vibrant aromas - plums, sweet black fruits, chocolate, liquorice. The palate is full bodied, with those ripe black fruits at the core, but surrounded by well judged tannins and oak treatment. It's nicely balanced. The marginal savoury edge is a nod to Italy, but it's a New World style of wine. (With DD at Sciue Sciue).

Heavy bottle, heavy all over. Still with stewed fruit but the sweet background is dissipating now and the finish gets a bit dry. Still very good but I think it was more impressive when younger and gets a bit one dimensional now, so better drink it earlier than later.

89-->92 RQP ****

An interesting blend of five autochthonous southern Italian grape varieties – hence the name – without vintage indication, as the grapes for this wine come from two different Italian regions. The Montepulciano (30 %) and Sangiovese (28 %) grapes are from the Abruzzi while the Primitivo (30 %), Negroamaro (7 %) and Malvasia Nera (5 %) are grown in southern Puglia. The indication “2012” only appears on the back of the bottle. The wine was aged for 13 months in …

The bottle is a monster - purple, opaque, heavy and imposing. The wine remains in character with it purple opaque and inky domination of my stemware. The nose has a lot going on and is hard to pin down as it flexes and shifts with each swirls and sniff. I'm getting rich dark red fruit and floral notes that make the wines smell sweet. The palate is consistent and the tannins are surprisingly soft. Not sure the structure will age …

Now here we have an interesting wine. As the name suggests it is made out of 5 indigenous grapes of mostly southern Italy (Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Primitivo, Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera). Dark purple. Expressive and baroque nose of lots of plum, prune, black fruit, sweet spices. This is rather ostentatious. On the palate soft and plush with soft tannins but not flabby at all. There is structure and lift. I am personally not a fan of these Southern wines but this …

"2016" Sydney International Wine Show - stewarding notes; 10/11/2015-10/15/2015 (Blue Mountains, NSW) : {cork, 14%} Raisins, raspberries, and the rest; a vast panoply of ripe red fruit is on offer here. There’s a vanillan, varnish quality too, and on the palate even a gluey note to the flavours emerges. The palate is really a compote of sweet red grapes, with medium powdery tannins, medium/full body and fairly low acidity. A medium length finish of burnished caramel and thick texture rounds …
