Coravin by the glass. Nose of red cherry, strawberry, anise and Mediterranean scrub. Ripe strawberry, cherry, anise, vanilla and underbrush on the palate. Very long finish. Medium bodied. A very good QPR. Served with baked lasagna.

Dried strawberry, dusty rose, sour red cherry and a whiff of volcanic ash. Medium body, high acidity. Finish with floral-mineral echo

Garnet red color with medium aromas of sour cherry, raspberry, dried flowers, and perfume. I want to call this a flabby wine and think the acidity was missing. Perhaps it needs more time to age but it’s a good entry into what Mt Etna has to offer.

Under composite cork. Pnp. Light ruby red with a thin rim. Fresh nose of cherry, cranberry, woodiness and minerals. Medium bodied, steely mouthfeel, red berry fruit extract, high acid, medium tannin, balanced alcohol. Squeeky, crunchy red berries on the palate, chalky minerals, tingly acidity, fine astringent tannins. Finishes tart, chewy and very dry. Needs fatty food.

Sour cherry, dried herbs, licorice gummy. Light, lean, with high acidity and sour red fruit attack and a herbal finish. Young.

This is a pleasant, everyday wine discovery. A nose bursting with bright cherry. The lightest of red colors in the glass with tints of earthiness. Not browning due to age but of volcanic soil. In the mouth, cherry prevails and the fruit is grounded with a sense of dry, rocky dust yet again from the great Etna. Quite round. There is a certain lushness that rolls the wine front to back, anticipating a beautiful finish. I am a huge fan …

Comprised of 95% Nerello Mascalese and 5% Nerello Cappuccio, this medium garnet wine offers an intensely floral aromatic profile, with up-front lavender and jasmine scents that are backed up with red fruit, black tea and dried earth. Medium-bodied, vibrantly acidic, lightly oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (14%), it delivers flavors mirroring the nose and stays solid on the midpalate. Medium-to-long and energetic on the back end, this is a wine that is ideally paired with tomato-based pasta dishes. Ordered from …

Needs another 6-12 months in the bottle or 2-3 hour decant. Wine is a bit tart at this point. Young fruit. This will mellow with more age. I find Tornatore needs 4 1/2-5 years bottle time. Otherwise typical high acidity, red fruit Etna Rosso.

Lighter hued ruby color though satisfying depth of fruit alongside Nerello's subtle, earthy, dry cured meat aromas. Quite respectable tannin, minerality, acidity. Good extraction of dried strawberry fruit & green strawberry leaf. Not so sharp as cranberry for me- there is more richness. Lovely to pair with shellfish in light tomato broth, or picnic roast beef sandwich, quite rare with proper Jarlsberg, green lettuce, & white onion.

2020 vintage. Purchased from local wine shop. $28/ bottle. Not as good as the previous vintage(s) (too young?). Otherwise, a red "porch pounder" for sure.

Similar to previous vintages. On lighter side with juicy fruit and attractive herbal complexity. Yum. (Color suggests more age, but was still fresh enough.)

Don Alfonso Classic Pairing (Don Alfonso, Toronto, ON, Canada) : Quite nice, bit not especially remarkable. (With curated food pairings in long meal; notes unfortunately recorded after, so no detailed notes; not scored.)

Pretty evolved, not much fruit, acid is a bit lower but fairly balanced. Mostly earthy/mulch flavours but still pretty good with a light chill
