Consistent with previous notes but on the basis of this bottle this wine is getting better! Pure fruit with lovely complex earth, forest floor and minerals on the nose. Wonderfully aromatic. Pure and super-fresh on the palate. Tannins completely integrated now. Still lots of acidity but it doesn’t feel unbalanced. Wonderful bottle.

"Rousseau is for drinking" (La Trompette) : This smelled so good from the off, with a ravishing, well-integrated savoury nose. Crisp acidity and deep, almost beetrooty fruit dominated the midpalate, which also had a gamey side and finished long but slightly thin, with bitter orange. Refreshing and charismatic - in a great place, and my #3 (but the group's WOTL).

Slightly funky barnyard and bacon fat. Discreet pure blueberry fruit. Lovely subtle depth to the fruit on the nose. Some fresh minty minerality. Elegant on the palate, cool fruit, light body. Stone fruit quality. Tannins resolved, fresh acidity in support. Lovely aromatic lifted quality on the finish. Light and delicate but delicious. Compared to my previous note this seems to have more body and better balance.

Pre-2002 Rousseau Dinner (WS NYC) : Lots of VA on the nose. Light mid-palate and feels a bit thin, lacking some depth of fruit to balance out the volatility.

Very pretty and lifted floral nose with earth and a touch of mint. Quite light on the palate but plenty of intensity and lovely background of deep red fruit. Acidity very present on the finish. A typical 96: the underlying character of the wine is very attractive but the acidity dominates.

Ruby/garnet translucent, little sign of bricking. A bit wobbly out of the blocks, it initially seemed a bit dried out and attenuated, but it pulled itself together, put on a bit of heft, and turned out to be a fascinating multi-faceted wine. It has a funky gamey, sweaty, barny nose, which is, however, dominated by woodsmoke, with sous bois, minerals and cherries on the savoury, raspy, palate, which remains a tad attenuated with a medium finish, with more minerally and …

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs; bottle from secondary market, bottle is an Atherton import (rather than Kacher) -nearly opaque dark red, minimal bricking -intense perfumed ripe dark cherry stewed tomato rich warm earth woodspice mature elements animale -med acidity, spectacular depth, warm earth cherry rich complex slight sweet-bitter oak element on finish -marvelous depth and aromatics, easily Grand Cru class with just a little too much oak influence, this is right in the middle of its mature plateau with perhaps …

It gives the impression of being fully mature, from the slightly faded colour to the earthy, secondary flavours. The wood has been noted elsewhere, and it is present though I did not find it obtrusive, so it has perhaps integrated more over the last few years. Plenty of fruit left and acidity to give it a refreshing quality. Overall I found it attractive and open. vg+

Beautiful pure ruby, bricky. An immediately earthy nose, hints of tea rose, cinnamon, touch of citrus, pie cherry. Palate very rosy, cherries, both delicate and powerful. Nose now gushing cigar tobacco (not ash), lots of sweaty socks and wet horse. Minerals. Nose absolutely gushes with character. Palate really well balanced, good sweetness and minerals, juicy. Perfect medium length. Wonderful femininity showing up now that it has had 45 minutes open. Everything about this wine is red. Nose now ROSES for …

Really lovely nose with good fruit. Had a longer mouth finish than I was expecting. Was really at its peak and should be drunk over the next couple of years.

Beautiful nose of strawberry and violet, with slight hint of farmyard. Still plenty of fruit and good structure. Long finish. Excellent.

Drunk at Hawksmoor with steak. Ruby color with a bit of browning around the edges. most of the nose was barny farm and secondary smells with just a bit of red fruit hanging on. med acidity. the tanins were not too pronounced and the wine did a nice job in the mid palate and the end. med length. all in all a nice lunch wine
