PV Douro VT'

Very darkish ruby coloured. Pronounced aromas of red cherry, paprika, grass. Very strong alcohol heat on the palate, with high tannins, and red cherry as well as scorched red earth. I think there’s too much heat seen in this. Pretty fair, but not exactly for me

Rich and deep. Closed first ½ hours but opened up. Ideal temperature just about 20 deg. celcius.

Opened up nicely over 3 hours. Quite a bit of alcohol on the nose upon first opening, but it mellowed out over time. Well balanced, good acidity with softened tannins. Nice flavors of dark fruits, especially cassis. I wouldn't expect this to improve any further with time.

Dense, peppery and brambly on the nose. The palate is peppery, concentrated, hints of dark chocolate and maybe some lighter more floral (?) notes.

I dont know what happened here; the 04 was outstanding (92+) but the 05 (good year in PT) is not nearly as good. Opened, decanted and consumed over 6 hours. Comes across very primary on the nose and the palate--just not a lot going on here. Its definitely Portuguese, I guess thats a compliment.. No front or mid palate, just some dark fruit around the edges. I could not pick this out from a blind flight of sub 8 Euro …
