Jean Laurent, Blanc de Blancs Brut

A lovely fresh Champagne.

Normal yellow. A bit weak mousse - gone a bit too quickly in my opinion. 6 g sugar/l makes it a bit of a crowd pleaser - taste is powerfuland most people will like it. Quite good.

Excellent

Bright yellow with quite powerful mousse. Pears, apples, citrus and lime - quite fullbodied and powerful taste - the pinot noir shines through. Wonderful length.

Lovely color - medium yellow. Dosage 6 grams which takes the edge of the acid - lovely mouthfeel. Soft and pleasant mousse. opens gently up as temperature rises, pears, apples and the fruit from the pinot noir shines through. Lovely wine.

Lovely depth with a good freshness.

2024 disgorgement. Rich and busicuity. With some Pinot Noir fruit on the nose.

Disgorged December 2021. Cherry pit, bitter almond, under ripe nectarine, yellow apple, raw dough, slight honeysuckle. Coarse and fleeting mousse. Rich and concentrated base wine with good complexity. Long length. I really like the dosage level here, it balances the acid really well, with a little to spare, giving it a more rounded and rich style. And given that it is -15 degrees, something richer is very welcome.

Bright and crisp. Yellow, apple, and pear notes. Very slight Yeasty notes. Showed no sign of aging yet. Not complex. Easy, quaffable drinker.

Disgorged August 2008. Well this is certainly mature. Moderate brassy-yellow color, still some fine bubbles. It smells like lemon furniture polish and gentle caramel notes with a fine spine of lemony acids - even after 15 years in bottle. Really lovely and full of life and drank well for the hour we had it open.

Dégorgé July 2020; friendly, balanced, pure, starting a tad too sweet, but lost its sweetness in the taste.

December 2021 disgorgement at 6g/l dosage. Pours a medium-pale copper with a mousse that fades quickly. Large bubble. Rich nose - almonds, cherries, lemons and toasted brioche. Medium heavy bodied, nice lift, perfect amount of acidity, and a rich palate. Palate follows the nose. There are what I perceive to be dusty and chalky tannins that presist though the finish. Meyer lemon juice and zest, mandarin orange, fresh-baked bread, crunchy baguette crust, apricot, peach, watermelon, crushed granite minerality, macadamia nut, and a splash of almond liqueur. Medium-plus to high acid that is both lively and rounded and creamy on the palate. A lot of complexity and intensity. The dosage is just a touch higher than my personal preference.

Bought by my sis ($100) 2 days ago when I bought the Aloxe Corton at the Capitol Hill liquor store for a dinner at Iron Gate (DC) this evening. Relatively muted on the nose and palate with notes of red apples and a pleasant mustiness with notes of forest floor. Almost imperceptibly light pink, lighter bodied. 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (EBCC) : Disgorged April 2012. Cherry and apple, with earthy clay and dried peach undertones. Fine bead. Flavors of bruised red apple and lemon curd with doughy and yeasty tones in the finish. Excellent.

Second Sunday Group: 2010 Bordeaux (aka Bal Masqué) (R&D's) : April 2012 disgorgement. Bruised apple on the nose and palate. Hints of roasted almond as well. Getting a bit long in the tooth.

Opened before a burg dinner, after a Gaston Chiquet BDB 08 which wowed us. This didn't show as well, but we fridged for a couple hours and went back to it after we drank our reds too quickly. It definitely came together. 90 to start, 92 later. Calling it a 91 for now. Will try again

Nice, soft bubbles. Good fruit. Lacked some of the yeast flavors I enjoy in a champagne but that is not a flaw, just a stylistic preference.

Best bottle yet. Clear signs of maturity with a soft, golden expression but still feeling fresh. Nice!

Somewhat thin and lacking the fruit I enjoy in a Blanc de Noir. Ok bottle but not comparable to other grower champagnes recently tried.

Disgorged 2018. Big rich pinot fruit showing of a tasty strawberry fruit character. 8 g/L RS. Works it out at $50 but wish it was cheaper.

Made from Pinot noir. Bouquet: Redcurrants, raspberries, sourdough, beers and herbs. Palate: Bread, sweet beers, cigar smoke, marzipan and cake. Not a favourite.

Great flavor, fine finish.

Dark red. Mature red wine (Burgundian?) nose. This one divided the table. I don't think anyone really loved this, but many found it interesting. I would have really like to try this in a non dosage version as it finished quite sweet which I found off-putting. Deg/15. Drink now - 2023

Better than the last time. Has some depth, brown apples and some wet forest floor. Medium definition and acidity. Good but not impressive.

Not sure what to think. Compared to its relatively young age the acidity seems low. Powerful and meaty but lacking structure. An off bottle perhaps?

This small Cotes des Blancs producer is located in the town of Oger. Only 20 cases of this were imported. The Chardonnay for this wine is sourced from 4 Grand Cru plots (Zailleux, Beaudure, Barbettes and Chenêts).

Helder lichtgeel. Fijne mousse, die in het glas snel minder intens wordt. In de geur broodgist, bloemen en mineralen. Zuiver en vol van smaak met citrusfruit, groene appel, hazelnoot en mineralen. Lang aanhoudend.

Wat jammer dat ik niet proef wat hieronder allemaal beschreven staat.Het lijkt mij heerlijk om dat allemaal in een wijn te proeven. Ik proef en ruik alleen maar een heleboel gist en citrus en een zuurgraad waar je spontaan tanderosie van krijgt, maar dat zal wel aan mij liggen. Teleurstellend. Ik snap niet wat mensen hier lekker aan vinden.

Opened by Redhawk. Jean Laurent is a grower/producer located in the Aube region which is about 70 miles South of the main Champagne growing areas. He has a reputation as one of the best winemakers in that region and his family has been growing Champagne for almost 1000 years. I've had several of his wines. This was my favorite of the 3 champagnes at the dinner. Chalky with almond and biscuit notes. Solid bead. 92-93 points.

Expressive aromas of lemon, orange peel, indian spices and brioche. Full bodied with zesty lemon balanced out with some brioche and almond wrapped in a fine mousse. The long finish brings in some, almost bourgeois, minerality. This Champagne is even better with food. It was an excellent pairing with some Coquille St. Jacque.

I opened this at my 6/27/10 champagne tasting. It had a terrific bouquet of brioche, pear, orange peel, floral, spice and talc aromas. The palate was full bodied, balanced and tasty with flavors of brioche, pear, orange peel, mineral and spice. It had a nice mousse and was very nice. 91+

Tasted blind. The nose was pretty crazy on this one - peach melba. Some brioche too. It disappointed on the palate though - very zesty, lemony, lean and dry, not enough fruit or substance. I guessed it was a BdB from an older vintage like 1995 or 1993. For this to be a 2002 adds to my conclusion that this is not a great Champagne.

IS SINE QUA NON THE GREATEST WINE IN THE WORLD? We go to school to find out!; 5/22/2009-5/25/2009 : A nutty caramel nose paired with some expressive lemon. Light fuji apple on the palate with medium acidity. Slightly creamy but full of yeast (a certain attorney in the room said girls don't like to hear the two together O_O). A fresh tingly champagne with a nice amount of cream that was a great kick off to our night of wines

Waterford Staff Attack (Waterford Wines Milwaukee) : huge nose of brandy and orange. nice and oh so leesy. buttery with rich lemon. powerful stuff. lots of character.
