Blind tasting for my guests. Still the usual flavours of roses and lichee, overtaked by caramel and honey. Sweetness 3/5 (ZH scale) and richness, gentle bitter. Has passed his peak. But still very good. 91

February 22nd, 2025 (Open THAT Bottle Night) and 3 other tastings over 14 days Aromatically, this wine is intensely floral–think roses and white lilacs–and equally reminiscent of ripe lychee nut with nuances of lime, honey, and crushed gravel. The same on the palate, but also some shiso leaf. It is sweet but balanced by the acidity. Luscious and with a long finish. The first night, this wine carried all the way from fried wontons to a Middle East spiced chicken …

Tasted blind with the wine group. It is in fact a VT in disguise with 62,5 g/L of residual sugar to add up its 13.5 ABV. Golden hue with orange reflection. Great showing with exuberance, expression and yet an elegance and class that is not a given with this grape. Depth, lenght, pleasure and richness under the palate with an unctous balance make it a very great bottle. Sugar is fully integrated to fruit and it is wholesome ! Perfect …

Beautiful tropical nose. Palate tropical fruit, pineapple, apricot touch of honey. Lovely balance and a line of bitter zest giving balance.

pale yellow. Nose all that-rose, lychee, spice such as clove. Taste medium weight, sweetness, touch bitterness on the end.

I thought it might be a long shot to try with Thai green curry, and it was—it’s much more an after-dinner treat (or maybe w/foie gras?) than works well for a curry dish. Nonetheless, this is honey-gold, viscous yet still medium-bodied, honeyed with a zingy finish; consistent when tasted over a couple of evenings.

Great showing. Rich, unctuous and exotic, with fantastic grip and definition. Off dry, but very food friendly (had this with spicy Thai), given the wonderful acidity.

Oily, spicy, layered. Juicy! God this is in a really good place. Lychee, honeyed, great length. The spice and alcohol has mellowed but still there to give some character and levels. This is vgv and still has life in it.

Absolute wonderful nose with elderflower, ripe yellow pear, and notes of brie cheese. On the palate a full rich viscosity, pear, peach, apricot and notes cardamom toward the finish. Very good balance between sugar and acidity. Wonderful wine. Olivier Humbrecht is the king of Alsace. 93-95P

Absolute wonderful wine. The balance between the sweetness and the acidity is just perfect. Lot of yellow fruit with peach, pear, apricot. Feels like a high concentration of residual sugar but the acidity holds it very fine. Enjoyed on first day with sushi and at the second day just the wine by itself. Would go well with cheese also I imagine for sure. Very good. 93-94P

Snapped up a 6 pack from Majestic @ £12.99 apieceback in 2012(?) Started drinking them 1.1.14 and had a bottle each new year's day with a big Chinese meal. Exceptional Gewurz - nowhere in the world makes as good a job of it than Alsace, and to be drinking a (for us) premium product was most satisfyig. I was somewhat concerned with the last bottle which was knocking on 10 years old by the time we drank it - wouldn't …

Love this. Oily, spicy, floral, fresh. If i'm being critical, the alcohol could be toned down just a touch but i'm being picky! Great length, balance. Full of integrity.

from 375. Compared with last bottle 2013, this is less rich and has more bitterness in the finish, not a good sign for Gewurz. Will drink up.

Excellent wine. Lots of intensity, roses, lychees and passion fruit, with a really big hitting palate, and echoes of gingery spice. Rich but not viscous. Looking forward to coming back to this in the future. Pure and long.

WIML93 Tasted non blind at a wine dinner. Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of peach, lemon, apricot and dough. Flavors of peach cobbler, pluot and lemon meringue. Bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold.

Rich and unctuous rose petal and lychee. Generous sweetness but have just enough acidity to maintain some lightness of being.

Deep yellow-gold; lychees, limes, pears, minerals; off-dry, lychee, grapefruit, earthy, slightly oily, medium body, decent acidity, lingering finish. Full mouthfeel of sweet lychee and slightly bitter citrus. High pedigree/terroir evident.

PnP. Beautiful golden yellow apperance. Lovely gewürz nose on the heavy side, lychee, mango, nice sweet things. Loads of sweetness in the mouth (vendange tardive quality) but also some acidity. Drink now I suppose.

Nose of spice and minerals. Pleasantly sweet but not cloying on the palate. This one really puts the Gewurtz in Gewürztraminer.
