Very good showing for this quinta Port. Youthful, bright with plenty of life left in it. Good, not great complexity and richness; more of a restrained elegant style. Very pleasant.

Nose is very earthy but still a bit hot. Palate is thin and racy but in a good way with raisins and figs . The alcohol is still dominating the finish though and there is a ton of sediment thrown off by this wine. It’s very drinkable and very enjoyable, if not life-changing. At this point though I’m not sure if it’s going to get better.

medium color, showing no excessive age and suggesting that it should still develop over the next 3-5 years. The nose is still very much on the fruity side, suggesting Christmas cake with baking spices. Slightly lacking in complexity, perhaps revealing the limitations of quinta releases in lesser vintages. Almost by default, the alcohol becomes more present. The palate is more harmonious with pleasant spicy notes, but the alcohol still dominates. enough youthful character to still believe it will improve. i …

Red center, pale red rim with clear signs of age. Sweet, iron, old cherries, marzipan, touch of VA, some mint. Smooth, weedy, almonds, some acidity and tannin, a little waxy, metallic, sweet on the finish, mint and eucalyptus. Good vintage port, lightish and drinking well now.

Earthy nose with figgy and red fruit, liquorice, slight funk, leather, sandalwood, preserved prunes and a whiff of truffle. Medium to fullbodied and beautifully rounded smooth palate with slight lift to the figgy fruit. Lengthy. Fine aged character here. Fun.

Some Ports, mostly Martinez (Roy's) : This flight was really intriguing. nose: a little more barbequed than the 1987 vintage, this had a tomatoey taste to it initially. Later, it developed a really obvious black licorice smell to it. palate: some licorice, again, and lots of red fruit that at times tasted barbequed. Also wacky, but more friendly than the regular 1987, to my palate.

Darkish red center, some age on rim, good legs, viscous. Sweet, mature red fruit, raspberries, cinnamon, marzipan. Sweet, a little acidity and tannin, red fruit - raspberries and damsons, almonds, licorice, great length (mature fruit), good balance between alcohol, fruit and acid/tannin. Drinking very well now, but would last 5+ years.
