Verus Vineyards Verus Vineyards Riesling, Slovenia, Podravje, Štajerska

A bright, fullish yellow colour. The nose bears some resemblance to what I find in riesling from the Eden Valley in Australia, featuring lime and minerals. Some spritzig is a good sign (screwcap closure, by the way). Concentrated lime and yellow citrus flavours, but there is a part of it that suggests some botrytis-affected fruit got in the vat as well. Very nice a harmonic riesling, almost sparkling on the tongue... Crisp, fresh and a nice aftertaste... My first experience with slovenian wine, but certainly not the last !

Herbal, candy, intense, and just a touch of fruity sweetness. Really good, and always excellently made, Verus produces some outstanding wines, despite the value. I'm impressed that the back of the label states the wines come from "some of the greatest white wine vineyards in the world". I'm not sure what vineyards they are, but that takes balls to put that on your Slovenian wine product!
