Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot

was closed for a few years but this vintage is really coming into its own. excellent wine from when a top tier producer was on song

pretty good and precise.

Lemon curd aromatics, touch short.

Old Guys Monthly Lunch @ Lela in Bloomington MN. Leo's btl. Really enjoyed this! Fresh, elegant & lush. No hard edges. With excellent aromatics of mineral citrus & orchard fruit. Very nice 10yrs out and reminding me 2013 might have been a sleeper vintage in Burgundy.

Light gold color. PNP, drank a glass over 90 minutes. Very nice stylistically, love the purity of the Meyer lemon, limestone and bright briney palate; just a hint of gunflint, and nice length.

Picked in October per Alex. Tropical aromas of banana and tangerine citrus. On the palate, quite different, sharp lean yet deep and broad and very bright and quite pure. Firm flavors and tart lemon lime quality. Wonder if this integrates more with a bit of time, but quite good now.

Needs 2 hour decant.

Birthday Celebration (Chicago, IL) : From magnum. Charming floral start alongside combination of peach, apple and pear aromas, then similar flavors. Rich style, slightly fleshy to start, more balanced middle through finish. Moderate length. Probably better in a year or two, but not a wine to cellar for the long-term.

The 2013 Moreau Morgeot is a stunner, though it's still tightly coiled. An incipiently complex bouquet of green apple, lemon oil, white grapefruit, nutmeg and pastry cream is followed by a palate impression of electric minerality (not exactly par for the course with Morgeot!), pulsating acidity and beautifully refined and layered texture. This has all the volume you'd expect from Morgeot, but a level of cut and energy that is truly rare. All things being equal, this should be extremely …

Domaine Bernard Moreau Cellar Visit and Tasting (Chassagne-Montrachet) : Tasting at the domaine. More dense and weightier than those tasted just before. Also more fruit driven vs texturally-driven, but this brings everything together in an excellent package. Very good.

Clearly morgeot, broader and more masculine than maltroie, but the package is less convincing than the 2012 and 2011. This year the more fruit forward 1er cru seemed to have fared better

Rich, nutty and honeyed. Macadamia aromas; quite large scale, rich, concentrated. Good acidity, nutty complexity. Very good flavour and balance. 88-91+
