Petaluma, Riesling, Clare Valley

I wasn’t expecting much from this. Dark ale color suggests ‘nastiness’. However remarkably light on the palate. No kerosene no overly aged characters to spoil a relatively clean palate and nice long after taste. A good compliment with the right food.

Over the hill., gone

Oxidised.

The Cork was in excellent condition however the wine was dark straw to amber orange in colour. Good acidity however the fruit had dropped out a little too much to make this wine exciting. Good if you are interested in experiencing aged Riesling, and the development process.

More lemony than lemon juice. Fleshy and ripe, salty, poised and complete. Palate is generous and expansive but focused by the citrus in overdrive. Far less developed than another I have had. A stunning bottle.

Just a distant memory of what it once was

Gulab jamun syrup colour. A sumptuous nose of caramel, rose petals and orange peel. Mouth of guava, lychees and lime butter. Medium length finish of marmalade.

The second of my stash opened after the seriously disappointing example back in May. This one is better, still a deep gold, but with distinctly flat aromas, almost verging on oxidised. Greasy & oily on the palate, no freshness, acid gone, short finish. I think Rob Walters (defunct ARW) was right about it.
