Purchased in 2010, stored in passive basement rack (58F-72F) since. PnP, consumed over 3 hours. Appearance: Clear, medium garnet with some edge bricking but overall looks pretty youthful for a 17 year old basic nebbiolo. Nose: Medium+ intensity with developed aromas of tar, earth, blood orange, dried cherry, and spice with subtle rose petal hints - very intriguing. This is in a good spot right now. Deep color with some bricking at the edge. Classic with dried rose petals, dried Montgomery cherry and a hint of tar. Just a hint of reduction that required some time to blow off. On the nose just a hint of volatility that added complexity. Excellent palate coverage with good sap to the middle. Tuesday Night Double Blind <$40 (Alpharetta, GA) : Dark core with crimson rim; cedar, celery seed, dark dried cherry, roses, balm; juicy acid, sweet Nebbiolo based fruit; delicious, called Aldo Conterno; a very nice showing for this wine which I've had a bunch of, a great value from this vintage, some off bottles but this was great.

Opened and let breathe in the bottle for 2 hours. Drank over the next 3. Really enjoyable. Good level of tannin and acidity to hold the wine together. Have one more left and will stash it in the back of the cellar for 5-10 years. Very nice wine right now. Should improve with time.

Needed a little bit of time ~60 mins seemed to be about right. Tons of tannin but mostly well integrated at this point. One bottle left but will try and lay off for a while to see if this can improve a little more.

Opened an hour before dinner, red fruit on the nose, the palate is cherry, rhubarb, and red currants with a touch of spices. A nice long smooth finish makes it most enjoyable.

We decanted through a vinturi and let sit for two hours. This is wine where patience will be rewarded. The first taste when I opened the bottle was rough and a little scary. Two hours later - Dark fruit on nose, deep color in the glass, the palate is plum, dark cherry and rhubarb with just a hint of spice on the finish which is a nice length and smooth. Went well with the grilled steaks I served it with.

Tuesday Night $25-$40 Double Blind (Bin 75) : Dense core with light red rim; sandalwood, rose, cherry, rich and deep, old-school; grainy, cherry, dry, rustic, tannic, deep, obvious Nebbiolo, sour plum, good acid on finish; a little mean but more air softened it just a bit; a very different wine than the 3-4 bottles I drank 3 years ago, still delicious but it has lost its soft modern mouthfeel which has been replaced with tannic Nebbiolo; called '06 Sandrone Valmaggiore.

notes from memory, but in short a fine wine. sour plums and plenty of secondary complexity, with plenty of tannins, this will last some while still. In someways it reminded me of good aged Bordeaux. I will have to see about getting a case.

Popped 1 hour before first pour. Nose: Expressive floral notes of violets and roses, ripe black cherry, and blue berry - really nice. Palate: Medium bodied, great balance, nice ripe black and red fruit with just a little hint of Asian spice. Finish: Medium-long lingering sense of red and dark fruit. An "almost" fruit bomb without the over-ripe stewed fruit - which I really enjoyed.

Poderi Aldo Conterno Tasting (B-21s in Tampa) : Popped and poured. Light ruby color, darker than the 2003. Similar nose to the 2003 (cherry and spice) but tighter. Cherry, mineral/dust, medium body, medium+ acid, long finish feeling the acidity and tannin. Liked this better than the 2003 but it is young. 89 at this time to me.
