This is a very "special" wine for me. Why? Because 8 months ago I had a 2016 vintage and I didn't like it - 87 points. Too much acidity, strong tannins, chaos with flavors, no balance. What was worse from my personal, subjective perspective - the wine got very good critics reviews. 🕔⏰🕝 I opened this wine both with curiosity and carefulness. First sniff, first sip and we have the winner. Completely different animal. Is that 2016 bottle was defective …

Round, ripe and delicious, if lacking the structure and tension of the 2016.

Dark and smouldering on the nose with a core of blackberry and black cherry enveloped with charred wood, cloves, olive tapenade, bacon fat, and violet. This delicious combination transfers to a svelte and powerful palate with additional cracked black pepper notes leading to a long, savoury finish. A structured wine which will benefit from decanting if drunk now or ideally from additional time in the cellar. WSET notes: Medium ruby. Pronounced on the nose with violet, blackberry, black cherry, olive, …

So a very robust wine that is peppery, meaty, smoky, yet retains plenty of ripe fruit. The tannins are ripe and silky, the finish long and lingering. It's a gorgeous wine.

Medium deep and bright hue. Dry spice and meaty lift. Lots of herb. Classic cool climate Syrah. Some red fruit but far more dominant herb, spice and cured meat. Palate is dry, has good weight of fruit and very tight acidity. Fine tannins. Lovely balance and length. Not my style, too green but a lovely wine none the less.

Cornas lunch (Macleay Street Bistro, Potts Point) : The appearance is clear and deep ruby in colour. Tears and sediment are visible. The nose is clean. The aromas have a medium intensity and show notes of black fruit (black plum, black cherry, blackcurrant), mineral (earthy character), and bottle-age (meaty character). The wine is developing. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. The medium level tannins are ripe and silky in nature. The …

Delicious and well balanced with notes of red bright fruits opening the profile but finishing on dark, compote fruits. A nice nose of leather, pencil, candied fruits along with the interesting profile make for a very good wine that is drinking well right now.

Cornas Birthday lunch (McLeay Street Bistro, Potts Point) : "musty, saddle leather, earthy, wild blackberry fruit, a little oxidised with plenty of caramel oak. A little sharp initially on the palate, cream flavoured and oak heavy. Meh at the mo' After 2hours cream, vanilla, spice, the fruit is a little muted and oak a little forward. Hmm."

Coravin fun - new arrivals (My place, Kent Street) : From Coravin. Polished oak toast, blackberry, liquorice, touches of black olives and baked earth and herbs. Clove and slight nutmeg. More of the same on the palate but more savoury with plenty of alcohol warmth and surprisingly soft tannins that lend a little chalkiness to the medium plus length finish. Hmm

Fin. Frais.

Dark red, clean, very little developing color. Dark/blue fruit, soft tannins and medium acidity, medium minus consentration. This wine does not seem to get better.

Full body, deep garnet color. The first attack is intense raspberry that continuing with elegant wild fruits, tobacco and black pepper aroma. Delicate black currants and mineral palate, long peppery finish. Rich, well structured, complex and balanced, lovely berries acidity, still tannic. Food friendly, best match is meat dishes, tasted with entrecote and grilled sweet peppers. Serve 16Âş - 20Âş. Open at least two hours in advance. Drink now and next eight years, perhaps longer.

Tried it along with a 2005 Hermitage Marquise de la Tourette and a 2006 Côte Rôtie le Maugiron, both by Delas. The Cornas turned out to be the most Bordeaux-like of all. It was lighter, more elegant with distinctly higher acidity and more tannins. Blueberries and black cheeries. Bit of milk chocolate in the aftertaste. Had I not known it was 2005, I would have said 2010 or younger. My Syrah-loving co-sipper was totally fond of it, while I went …

Excellent! Open and let it get at least an hour of air. Nose of leather, intense dark fruit, cannot stop smelling, complex... Good acidity, intense aroma, moith watering and lingering, still watering while writing. Probably at peak, with a few more years ahead. Was the last bottle, sigh!

Interesting development in the decanter. At the start it was clear fresh and fruity. An hour later, all cherries and pomegranate and still no depth. 2 1/2 hours interesting full and rich. I wonder if this is at its best at the moment. My first bottle and glad I didn't open it sooner. Perfect with a roast loin of pork . Very good indeed in a modern style.

Vin à maturite avec des goûts de cerise noir, confiture des fruits rouges et pruneau. Belle texture en bouche et un nez agréable. J'ai apprécié le pourcentage d'alcool à 13.

I thought this was a very solid Cornas that was best right at cellar temperature, but did not really improve with air / warming to room temperature.

Surprising light but very pleasing. Very complex with layers of fruit, oak and spices but light and fleeting at times, quite compelling.

dark red color, opaque, hardly no rim. Spicy on the nose w dark berries, plum and pepper. On the palate black currant (and some leaf), spice and pepper. Soft tannnins and some hint of developing earthly aromas, tobacco and leather. Decanted one hour before drinking and served at 16 degrees. The warmer vine had a much more jammy apperance. The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Black currant (cassis), and Blackberry. The body is Medium. …

Longueur moyenne. Peut-être dans une phase de fermeture ? A revoir dans quelques années.
