A sweet wine well made. At 17% and not so high a sugar content it is fairly light. However, I am missing a complexity in the taste and other sweet wines in the market are more interesting. This bottle had been stored cool in my cellar for more than 10 years.

Nice fortified wine that combines the winemaking techniques used for Recioto and Porto. Plummy and nutty with dark chocolate and licorice. Sweet and tannic, you can feel the alcohol, but it is balanced by a good fruit intensity (retail $34.99)

Deep, dark garnet in color. I mean dark. Beyond opaque. Really rich fruit on the nose along with vanilla and allspice. Very rich flavor of ripe berries, dark chocolate (I mean in the 72% range) and coffee. Soft, lingering finish.

Inky black/purple in the glass. Opaque. Highly expressive aroma of chocolate and white pepper, with cranberries in the background. Powerful flavors of cherry, raspeberry, cranberry, spice, mocha, chocolate, and more pepper. Very sweet. Full-bodied, high acidity, but perfect balance. Everlasting finish -- I taste it still, 5 minutes after having a small glass.

This bottle consistent with previous. You cannot see through even a tasting sample. Non-dessert fans enjoyed this. Wine of the evening at the tasting.

Finished tonight. It never weakened. Good solid dessert wine ("solid" in nearly every sense of the word).

Tannins are still going strong after over a week. Flavors are a bit better blended with the wood taste giving way to Coke Blak, baking chocolate, chicory, and stewed blackberries. Must compare to a Maydie sometime.

Color (5/5): Glass-coating black purple in the glass. Color straight through to the edges. Nose (13/15): Alcohol present on first pour. Once it subsides (2-3 minutes), full nose of ultra-dark berry cobbler with dark chocolate syrup in a new wooden dish with a very slight bit of vanilla cream. Really makes you think. Palate & finish (16/20): Confirms the nose. Blackberry cobbler with dark chocolate ice cream on top. It was placed in your mouth with one of those wooden …

Impenetrable dark purple. Brooding dark fruits, plum on the nose and palate. Reminds me of a young vintage port. Absolutely wonderful with chocolate.

PI.

Dumbfounded by Dominus (Kirkland, WA) : 19.5% fortified. Savagely tannic. A smoky nose interplaying with raisin, rather intriguing. This hides the alcohol very well.
